Well unlike it's two old rivals at least there haven't been direct rezzes iirc. And yes one piece is incredibly generous with how much people tank before they die, but it's always been that way. Luffy literally shoots Wapol off a giant cliff and possibly off the island and he reappears a hundred chapters later in a mini-story.

You know this chapter made me realize that Kaido is a boring ass villain. We basically know nothing about him other than that he's strong, likes war, and is suicidal at random times. I hate to say it, but we could really use another flashback explaining who Kaido actually is. Because right now this may as well be a fight vs. a giant block of iron. It serves to show how much stronger Luffy and friends are but really doesn't have any emotional impact whatsoever.

I agree that Kaido really doesn't have much character, he's a pretty stereotypical bandit chief villain. I assume we'll get some background when they talk more about the Rock (?) pirates. It's pretty noticeable right next to BM who's one of the most over the top villains in OP though.

That being said the chapter was fun, the "contest" was pretty hilarious.

So they're really supposed to take down two yonkous together. If so, I'm certain the battle will split into two teams.

Good chapter, though I don't get why Luffy would go for regular attacks after he got wiped out last time.

I wonder what motivates Kaido. He's been lounging in Wano for decades and seems to be bored out of his mind, trying to half-assedly kill himself etc. Why did he not get the idea to raise hell previously? It looks like the only thing he loves is booze and battle. Why not march to Navy HQ to duke it out with the strongest guys Marines have to offer?

Plus aside from the fact that he was captured by the Marines multiple times, we do know that he doesn't just sit around in Wano doing nothing. When we first saw him, he was on some sky island, and then belly-flopped that random Island where Kidd and Appo were at. And prior to his official introduction, Kaido tried to intercept Whitebeard while he was on his way to Marineford, only to get blocked by Shanks somewhere. So he does get around at least somewhat.

I think Kaidos primary motivation is the desire to start a big ol war, hes likely an Only The Strong Survive sort of person who wants to see personal strength = total power in the world

plot hole basically. You think Garp doesn't have advanced haki to kill kaido? All 3 admirals have that probably. Imagine a situation where 3 admirals + garp + mihawk + sengoku can't kill him when he's chained up and can't fight back but we might have a situation where supernovas may knock him out or even kill him LOL

Yeah it's a bit strange that Kaido is marketed as unkillable, since Big Mom seems to have similar physical attributes. Maybe he can get knocked out or he will tire out, but can't be killed?

That would explain him getting captured. Maybe there is something yet to be revealed about his fruit.

Now that you mention marines , they have a serious power vacuum going on. Garp and Sengoku are pretty much retired, and Aokiji is no longer with them. They can't count on Shichibukai any more either. No matter how dedicated Akainu is, he's now in a leadership position, instead of going around kicking ass in the grand line.

They still have three Admirals though, we know Fujitora is a bad ass, and its probably safe to assume Green Bull is a total badass too given there hasn't been a non-badass Admiral yet.

Tbh Im not even sure how much the Shichibukai were really worth compared to the Admirals. Like, what, Doflamingo was maybe the strongest one (minus Mihawk who is very probably Yonkou level)? They had some real light weights like Moria there though, not to mention Buggy.

Garp and Sengoku are still around though, and if Rayleigh is any indication old age isn't going to be hitting them THAT hard, given neither have seemed to be severely ill like Whitebeard (who was still a crazy monster.)
