Also, it kinda cheapens the whole "tragedy" of SMILE if you can just cure it somehow. The only cure should be death. | ||

This is One Piece so they are probably going to get cured. They will still smile though, but for real, after they defeat Kaido and Orochi. I'd be happy if they didn't do this, but it's to be expected from this kind of manga I guess. I don't really have a problem with it though. After all OP is all about the journey and the Strawhats making everyone happy and Luffy making his enemies/rivals become his friends (his most dangerous quality according to Mihawk). | ||

Curing a science made poor quality devil fruit wouldnt directly correlate to normal devil fruits, but considering where we are in OPs story, I think there’s a serious chance that it might just because we gotta wrap these story threads up some time soon, right? | ||

No, but curing fake ones offers the opportunity to go into the mechanics of devil fruits from the sciencey perspective. It might be a way they wind into whatever weird mystical bullshit that Blackbeard does to negate the multi devil fruit drawback. I mean, they could've kept Devil Fruits as more of a magical thing, but I feel like the SMILE story importance means we'll probably get into their more scientific (at least OP scientific) mechanics. | ||

Oda has stated a long time ago (back in an SBS in Volume 48) that: For more detail, you'll just have to wait for a certain professor to make his appearance in the story, and explain exactly what the Devil Fruits REALLY are... Eventually. So we should expect Vegapunk to tell us everything... eventually. | ||
