This was discussed before about giving DF to objects with the mera mera fruit. Maybe Luffy would win the fruit and give it to Zoro who would give it to one of his swords or something. I don't think it would work as it would make sense that only zoan DF could be given to items and be controlled. If you were to give a fire fruit to a sword or a quake fruit to a ring how would you control it? Rub the sword? Tap the ring? It's still an object with no intelligence, but when is a zoan is given to an object the object gains sentience and can be controlled in the same way animals can be tamed.

Devil fruits may have some sentience due to having actual "devils" inside. It was discussed in the manga during the CP0 saga where the wolf guy was afraid of the fruits because he didn't want his devil to fight another devil. We don't know much about these devils, but potentially you could communicate with the Mera Mera Devil and control it that way.

The devils inside hasn't been shown to be anything besides superstition yet. Jabra is an unreliable narrator and his claims about devils was dismissed by Blueno who said that rumor was because people die when they eat two devil fruits.

Yea he was working entirely in the realm of rumors because no one knows what the fuck devil fruits actually are. Vega punk is probably one of the only ones who knows about the true nature of them since he has studied them. I wouldn't be surprised if when he finally makes an appearance he will reveal stuff about devil fruits that we didn't know before.

So they have to delay the torikago for the grand total of one minute.

EDIT: Well, to be fair... delaying it by just one minute will mean a lot of dead people anyway because it would mean finishing Doffy just as the cage is about to reach the center... even if Luffy's attack were an instant hit. So, yeah... thinking about it I guess they need to hold it in place about 3 minutes or delay it about 6 minutes at least, right?
