Isshin uses his "Final Getsuga Tenshou"(which he taught to Ichigo way back when.) Kills the thing Vastor Lorde, but its dying from the injuries and loses his powers. Masaki finds him and heals him. They fall in love. Urahara sets him up with a nice new body. (thats why Urahara asks Isshin if he blames Urahara for getting weaker) Possible relations back to the plot: Ishida's dad helped Isshin take out the Vastor Lorde and thats why he tells Ishida that he can't help Shinigami as the last time he did, Masaki was taken from him. | ||

He didn't kill the Vasto Lorde because he said "How could a girl like you kill a thing like that?" meaning Masaki killed the Vasto Lorde. She also had a wound, which is probably why Ichigo has similar hollow powers via Fullbring. Ishida's dad is in love with the maid (they were blushing and acting all awkward around each other), and plus Ishida's dad flat out says neither him nor Masaki want to marry. He could care less Masaki was taken from him. | ||

Edit: I guess earlier, when they go to the Shibas to fly up to the Zero division, Ganju asks Kukkau(one armed, well breasted fireworks woman) if she was sure about it, and if their uncle would be ok with it. So I'm guessing that Isshin is their Uncle, making Ichigo their cousin | ||
