Granted, there was some cheap CGI going on here but it made up for it in suspense for me. ![[image loading]](http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/images/district9-poster2.jpg) First half was pretty meh, second half was good. Manages to be cinematically beautiful and a total mindfuck, and pull some really intense emotions out of you - there were parts where my friend and I were actually cringing in our seats. I'd consider it to be the top candidate for Best Picture at the moment. And if Natalie Portman doesn't win Best Actress, the Academy can all go fuck themselves. | ||

I kinda lost interest when watching The Prestige and there where so many twists I got to confused, to really understand what really happened. Helena Bonham Carter is also amazing in this. I disagree somewhat, I feel like the director didn't really give her enough material to do an 'amazing' performance, her part is to play a very stoic woman of course, but it was a little too basic for me, still a good performance though. | ||

I don't really know how to describe it, it's like, grab James Bond, mix him with an action hero, turn him into a girl and then multiply by 3. + Show Spoiler + Also make two of them lesbians. A ton of impossible and ridiculous fighting moves and a lot of action, tons of hi tech gadgets, really entertaining. Also contains Zhao Wei~ | ||

Bad fight choreography, blatant Buddhist propaganda, the bad guys (a young scheming official and some white dudes) are cliched to the max regarding their anti-monk attitudes. Jackie Chan's appearance was meant to be comedic but was just absolute garbage as well (he's done the "I'm not a fighter, I'm just a [insert minimum wage occupation] who likes to laugh but when bad guys come I'll kick their ass because I wasn't honest about my kung fu abilities in a veiled attempt at humility" thing so many times. | ||

Initially sort of confusing but pretty (especially while trying to piece together what the state of the world is), it becomes mesmerizing and beautiful once it really gets you engaged. | ||
