A lot of the movies are classics (I don't really feel like posting the entire list but I'll leave a spoiler of most of the list at the bottom of the post). I do remember that movie Stalker you recommended and I haven't forgotten about it, I just am watching mostly great/classic movies that I've missed or don't really remember. Basically for the list I ended up going to AFI and IMDb and I found their top 100/250 lists and chose movies that sounded interesting to me or that I had seen and didn't really remember. Some of them are movies I had just heard great things about but had never gotten to see. Anyway, here's the list: + Show Spoiler + Eraserhead Chinatown Citizen Kane Schindler's List Verigo Psycho 2001: A Space Odyssey One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest* American History X Saving Private Ryan Goodfellas The Matrix Se7en The Prestige American Beauty Requiem for a Dream* Full Metal Jacket No Country for Old Men Good Will Hunting Her 12 Monkeys* The Shining* Asterisk denotes movies I have already watched.

![]() Amazingly cringe-worthy in the best possible way. Kevin Spacey was brilliant in every scene and portrays that awkward dad you never wished you had, but have come to appreciate. It's tragic and sad, but still has a light mood at the right moments. I wouldn't say it's as memorable as the other movies I've seen so far, but it shouldn't be missed.

![]() Dawn of the Planet of the Apes 2014 ★★★ out of ★★★★★ Watched Aug 06, 2014 butchji’s review: A very straight forward story with some (expected) drama ingredients. The real stars of this film are the special effects studios (Weta Digital, Gentle Giant Studios, Spectrum Effects, The Imaginarium Studios (c) IMDb). It's pretty crazy that the closest to photo realism CG images to date get released at the same time as the schlock in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The awful near to no detail "set design" of the electric power station fight scene in the newest Spider-Man still gives me shudders. Good to see what good CGI usage is capable of. ![]() Ordinary People 1980 ★★★★ out of ★★★★★ Watched Aug 10, 2014 butchji’s review: Can't remember seeing any mother quite like Beth in a Hollywood film. This film is rather extraordinary. Well deserved Oscar. edit: Well, Raging Bull was also nominated so maybe...

![]() Boyhood goes into my imaginary top 3 movies of all time holy shit. 12 years of filming using the same actors creating a glimpse into what life really is. This movie resonated with me like i've never felt before, wow.

Captain America and Iron Man America's Heros united. I wish straight to dvd releases got a bigger advertisement. There's a lot of little kids who'd love to see this stuff but if you like Marvel then it shouldn't matter if you're an adult. Pretty standard for a marvel movie. Even the surprise is overused. You can't make a more marvel movie than this. Pulp fiction I liked the style of the movie. It's just a few random short stories that are entertaining and funny. All the characters like to do illegal things. I think it pulled off different stories much better than some other movies like Godfather 2 or Cloud Atlas that like to jump between plots with little to no transition. Django Unchained: One of the only recent movies to make it to the imdb top 250. Exciting and novel. Black slave gets set free and goes on an adventure with a German bounty hunter to free his slave wife.

![]() Uhh... Yeah. This movie is the pinnacle of being abstract. I enjoyed it, but it was so out there that there's really no way to understand it the first time you watch it. A few scenes you can pretty easily read into (the first scene in particular is pretty apparent in its imagery if you go into the movie with even the slightest idea of what to expect), but for the most part the scenes seem to be random and it's hard to understand. It's a good film and there's a reason that it has a huge following, I'd say it's a good film. It's unique, creative, and has an interesting story to tell with lots of underlying themes. Don't go in expecting some huge life realization, but it's worth a watch.

Guardians of the Galaxy was pretty fun. Oh no doubt. I'm not watching every movie because they're some classic movie that I just want to watch to say that I've watched. A lot of the movies on there are just for fun basically. They're definitely not the level of Citizen Kane or Vertigo or something, but I don't think any of those movies tries to be.

![]() Night Moves 2013 ★★★★ out of ★★★★★ Watched Aug 14, 2014 butchji’s review: Night Moves has more uncomfortable silences than Drive and Mr. Eisenberg is a true master of this skill. Everything in this film is so anti Hollywood it's quite astonishing. SPOILER AHEAD There is one scene with a roadkill which blocks half the street so our protagonist is stopping the car and wants to clear the road. He checks the body of the deer first though and recognizes that it's still warm and that there must be an alive cute bambi inside. Myself trained with quite a number of Hollywood films immediately thinks this nice eco-activist is gonna help Bambi come to this world and live a happy life ever after. Instead he just throws it off the street. ![]() Lucy 2014 ★★★½ out of ★★★★★ Watched Aug 14, 2014 butchji’s review: Michael Bay could learn a lot from Besson on how to make a dumb film. This was such a charming mess. P.S. Having just seen the apes in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes the CGI in Lucy was really underwhelming. :p

Good fighting movie. I like how well the movie does a comedic homage to older martial arts movies with the costumes and props. Every major fighter has character too. You can describe them and immediately know who they are (The guy with the brass body or suit of daggers) without using their names. + Show Spoiler + The man does not get Iron fists until the movie is almost done. Maleficent Best movie I've seen since page 311 (Saving Private Ryan, Sword of the Stranger) no contest. I like the new take on the snow white story. It's really touching and I didn't expect to experience all these feels. It's most similar to Oz (the great and powerful) but better. Probably the most touching movie I've seen since Her (page 294). I've posted at least a movie per page on average. This is one of those jewels of movie making that make you optimistic with the way the art is progressing.

Definitely the best spiderman up to date. Yes i think it's better than the trilogy. Of course it has flaws. Of course the movie is not perfect there are some illogical stuff that happened but it's a superhero movie so it's fine. + Show Spoiler + And Gwen Stacy died man talk about guts of the show. I have seen very few shows who kill the MC love interest. Now my wandering is answered why the first 3 spiderman Mary Jane was the love interest and Gwen Stacy appeared in 3. And her death was well done. I thought she was gonna be saved at the last second then her head bumped the floor. Fuck i was actually in awe for a couple of seconds there. Letter from Iwo Jima Great war movie under the perspective of the japanese. Really cool movie. Portrayed the saddening effects of war pretty well.

I watched Requiem for a Dream under the many great recommendations here, but I must say, I was not impressed. Don't really know what it was, like it felt hectic, and I understand they were trying to simulate the lives of drug addicts, but the movie is fictional, it's far from what happens in reality, and it just seemed like a mess even though they used visual effects, sound effects, repetition, and all that other stuff remarkably well. 6.5/10 movie for me. Recently I've also seen Ender's Game, and given I've read the book, I'd give that movie a solid 8/10, and Guardian's of the Galaxy as well, good action comedy, great in 3D... Not a deep movie or anything, but if you want some brainless jokes with your favorite Parks and Rec character, as well as some nice special effects, go see this movie, 9/10. edit: Oh, also saw Definitely, Maybe two days ago, pretty nice movie for this style. Nice, cute, and just well made, nothing that really pops out, but I definitely enjoyed this kind of story structure, 7/10.

As an addition, the movie Maleficent is predictable but if you don't mind predictable movies I think it's a great watch.

Surprisingly this movie sneaks into my top3 Ghibli (alongside Grave of the Fireflies & Only Yesterday). The movie is bigger in term of scope, reality and maturity than many others (I say this because of my personal preference for much mature Japanese animes like Akira/Memories/Perfect Blue/5cm per sec etc.) Although the first half could be bland some time, the whole movie feels like a miniseries which accelerate toward the end, especially in term of emotion. Oh and all the dream sequences make it instantly great like many other films that have dream sequences. Besides, it's not worth mentioning that all the things that make you love Ghiblis are still there 8.4/10
