Unless it's making a Napoleon movie. He always wanted to but was never allowed to by the higher ups since previous terrible Napoleon movies flopped. Oh his version I'm sure would have been glorious... Think Barry Lyndon but with more pizazz. A tragedy in cinematic history!!

The training portion was the most memorable of the movie. Best drill sergeant in any film.

R. Lee Ermey was an actual drill sergeant prior to the film. I prefer his character in Saving Silverman though :D

To be fair, the only thing that Jarhead going for it was the photography.
I heard they were trying to restart his script for Napolean into a mini series?

The Godfather Part 2 Nowhere near as good as the first. The plot of old movies is often hard to follow and this movie in particular bored me.

Guardians of the Galaxy 10/10
SPOILERS
Quite literally the best Marvel movie I have ever seen. Haven't laughed that hard at a movie theater since the original Hangover came out or the original Jackass movie. Action was great, laughs were top notch, soundtrack was amazing, visuals were awesome and we got to see Thanos in all his glory and the "artifacts" are finally called Infinity Gems, though no mention of a gauntlet yet.
No awesome credits at the end to show what's next in the universe and no look at Age of Ultron which I was surprised at, though they did troll us at the post, post credits with a quick scene.

Batman Assault on Arkham Really epic movie.
One thing I really liked was that they reverted Amanda Waller's weight loss in the new 52. It's apparent the movie draws inspiration from the new 52, but Waller's a semi-good overweight woman who uses her wits and her psychological powers to be a threat to superhumans. She's misguided, but she doesn't use her sex appeal or her muscles to beat superheros as she knows that there's no point to trying. If she's sexy then she's just another potential mating candidate for a superhero.

So he got slammed into the movie ;D. Plus that whole rant scene where he chews and spits them out in the barracks is 100% off script and improvised lol.

Agreed, such an awesome movie I am impressed how almost every character is likable and you grow on them Maybe I'm just not a fan of "good" movies, but I really didn't think Guardians of the Galaxy was as great as everyone else thought it was. The people in the theater I went to actually even started laughing before the punchline of most of the jokes, making it literally impossible for me to even hear what was so funny about the joke. I might have just not have had the best sense of humor because it was at 1 in the morning and I had gotten 5 hours of sleep the night before, but I didn't really enjoy it that much. Without spoiling any of the parts, some of the humor was pretty repetitive and low brow. Maybe I had too high of standards - I was hoping that it was going to be a serious action movie.
All in all, I would say a lot of people will probably really enjoy this movie. It's a lighthearted action/comedy movie with a great lineup and a decent plot at least. Maybe some people were expecting this and came out happier than I did. I was really hoping for something along the lines of The Avengers with a better plot and a wider scope of the Marvel universe.
This being said, I'll probably go see the movie again because I have another friend who wants to see it in the theaters and has been begging me to go with him for months. I just can't tell him I saw the midnight premier

Not sure about your statement about "old movies", but it's a pity you didn't like it, I like the 2 slightly better than first. De Niro is incredible, as often... Saw Ivan's Childhood, very emotionnal, some beautiful scènes, but not as powerful as Tarkovski's alter movies. I just have Offret left now.

Ivan's Childhood is definitely one of the best feature debuts I've seen. I was lucky enough to see 6 Tarkovsky's in theatre, but missed out on Andrei Rublev.

Well, if you think the age of the movie has something to do with it's quality/making sense or whatever don't make the mistake of thinking The Godfather III should be watched...
Personally I like GF II more than the first. In terms of story, although we don't really follow a nice neat linear story like in GF I, I love how well the second movie pulled off looping through time. We get to see the myth behind Vito and how/why he became Godfather, then we get to see how Michael finished the transformation he started in the first movie to becoming his own twisted version of the Godfather. We get to see the creation and, essentially, the destruction of the Corleone family in one movie. Love it.
The DeNiro scenes I think are the most beautiful live action set pieces in movie history. Aesthetically and musically the movie is an absolute masterpiece throughout.I live in New York and have Italian heritage, and I've always been super interested in that era of American/New York history so I can't get enough of it. I guess The Godfather movies in general have a uniquely strong emotional pull with many Americans. A story of immigrants, assimilation, loyalty and one delightfully violent version of the good ole American Dream.

And Avengers isn't exactly what I would call "a serious action movie." But that's just my opinion.

Just watched Divergent. It was pretty interesting on the first 3/4 or 4/5's of the movie but it went downhill on the last part =/ they focused too much on Dauntless that it was a little bit relevant to the ending.
|
it's a trilogy. they get more relevant. gotta lay the foundation.

Fourth up in my list of 26 movies was this classic. There is a reason why this is considered one of the greatest horror films of all time. Truly disturbing and if you look up the analysis on some of the scenes it leaves you even more troubled than before. Kubrick is a master director and Nicholson played Jack perfectly.
