I liked this one. It doesn't try to glorify war. The movie is about the story of a few men who were sent to save a Private Ryan after his 4 brothers had been killed in WW2. Since Ryan was the only sibling left, the army didn't want his mother to find out she'd lost all her sons. When you look at the list of surviving WW2 veterans and how much they'd accomplished for the world in their lifetimes, you wonder how much the world would have lost without them. Some went on to become popes and famous artists or scientists and engineers. Some went on to become presidents and heads of state. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_surviving_veterans_of_World_War_II But every individual, no matter what profession they went into afterwards, contributed so much to the world and to the functioning of society. It's sad that every dead body is just a foot on the beach or an inch in the trenches during war. Harold and Kumar I don't like this kind of humor and most of the scenes have already been reposted on reddit. Braveheart Fighting was poor. The rest is ok. The Raid 2 A much bigger budget than the last one. Story nonexistent. Choreography is great. I disliked that they brought an actor back from the last movie considering he was a main character and had been killed in the previous movie. They just had him be a new character...

![]() Well this one slipped under the radar. Its a right bizarre little film. Scarlett Johansson plays a murderous alien picking up men from the streets of Glascow (i think, its definitely in Scotland). Many of the scenes are filmed without the knowledge of the participants, which according to interviews, was a major headache for the production team, but its worth it. You'll never see a film like it. The nuance in the performances (many of them not being performances, but real life reactions) is awesome. Its hard to tell which scenes are directed and which are real. Its got a fantastic soundtrack too. Its one of those films that gets reviews of 90% or more, or 20% or less, and very little in between. You'll love it or hate it. If you like your films cerebral and strange, watch this. I for one really enjoyed it. Edit: I should probably mention a couple of things to entice you in. 1) The direction and photography in this movie is nothing short of genius. There's a reason people mention Kubrik when they see it. 2) Scarlett Johansson gets her boobies out.

Not sure if the movie was actually good or it just made me remember the books so much that I liked it (been roughly 10 years since my last read through the series). Either way I really enjoyed it (but as with any book to movie there were small things I would have liked done differently).

Went to see this with the gf last weekend and was surprised in a good way. I love Wet Hot American Summer, and this is very much in the same vein (no surprise), though it still manages to get some of the Rom Com-y aspects through the whole thing is very tongue in cheek. Good balance for a date movie, she gets to stare at Paul Rudd you can laugh some whilst poking holes in perhaps the dumbest genre in cinema.

Not sure what to think. I liked his last two films, but I also feel like he's very good at copying his influences, and good enough that it doesn't matter to anyone who's not a hyperintellectual film connoisseur that has lost the taste for simplicity. In fact Reygadas is such a peculiar filmmaker that while he as an artist is clearly a hyperintellectual film connoisseur, his films also require an instinctual reaction from the audience to appreciate the metaphysical, religious, and primitive elements contained within every image and the overall narrative. It's difficult to judge but I liked the more formulaic Silent Light better. In fact someone like Reygadas raises very interesting questions about the nature and necessity of originality. He is, when closely examined, a very talented film student who borrows the best from each of his masters, but his artistic impulse, eye for the sublime, and his discipline and patience to allow his scenes to reveal something underneath, are in the end, qualities of a great filmmaker, regardless of his debt to Tarkovsky, Kiarostami, Dreyer, etc.

![]() Premise: Its a story about two girls that wanted to go to play with each other outside, the dad of one of the girl (played by Hugh Jackman) told her to go only if her brother accompanies her. Later when they returned to the home of one of the girls, they wanted to play in the house of the other girl. However this time, they've decided to go there alone which lead both of them not returning home at the appropriate time. Hugh Jackman's character and the families of the girls thought that the older siblings were there with them, panicked. The older brother told the parents that the girls were hanging around a recreational vehicle in the first outing but then when the parents went to the exact location of where the vehicle was parked, it was nowhere to be found. So it began an amber alert for these girls with the police. However unhappy with how the lead policeman (played by Jake Gyllenhal) was handling the case, Hugh Jackman's character decided to take matters into his own hands in order to find the girls in any ways possible, even if it means committing crimes himself. This is one of those movies where it isn't exactly putting the lead actors such as Hugh and Jake into the spotlight by spoonfeeding their face to the audience, the director managed to actually direct the secondary characters by giving them intricate and detailed interaction with the main characters. I would easily place this movie into my top 10 all time favorite list, strongly recommend anyone to give this movie a shot, you will not be disappointed.

12 Years a Slave - Slow start but gradually became more interesting. Fassbender is an excellent actor. Even as a villain you can't help but be impressed by the seriousness he brings to the role. Mandela - Again slow start but some parts of his life story are new to me, so it was a little more interesting, particularly the events leading to his release and his relationship with his wife. Idris Elba is great here as well. The Iceman - Mob killer leading a double life. Well acted all around. The story here seems familiar though. I didn't realize it is Wynona Ryder here but she is still good looking. Philomena - Didn't know much about the story here but I'm glad I didn't because each event in the story is a surprise and you're curious to see what would happen or how people would react. Judi Dench and Steve Coogan have great chemistry and are excellent.

Didn't blow my mind, but for a strange and cerebral movie, it delivered its story rather clearly. At least that's what I understood, maybe I missed some stuff. Found it cool for this kind of movie not to get too "edgy" and end up being a mess. Pacing was slow-ish, but fit the theme really good. Definitely watchable compared to the daft punk's movie, for exemple. Also, Scarlett Johansson gets much more than her boobies out. Can't say I didn't enjoy that.

Rape of Nanking focused on the events in one Christian Church. It was certainly entertaining from the start because there were fight scenes. I don't know if I'd recommend the movie. It was alright. Here's wikipedia's take on Nanking The event remains a contentious political issue, as various aspects of it have been disputed by some historical revisionists and Japanese nationalists,[8] who have claimed that the massacre has been either exaggerated or wholly fabricated for propaganda purposes.[13][14][15] As a result of the nationalist efforts to deny or rationalize the war crimes, the controversy surrounding the massacre remains a stumbling block in Sino-Japanese relations, as well as Japanese relations with other Asia-Pacific nations such as South Korea and the Philippines. Cute movie, not the normal lovestory film. Has no real story is more about characters. If you hafe a BF/GF watch it with her, soundtrack is very good/touching. RIO2. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2357291/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 I liked the original Rio, hate this one. While the first one was original and had a story, 2nd one is boring, lots of singing (hate singing in Render/Cartoonmovies, besides Lion King), boring, uninspired storyline. Kids might like it, GF and me who loved Despicable me 1&2, liked Rio 1 hated it. Blue Jasmine: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2334873/?ref_=nv_sr_1 Woody Allen Fans will like it, I didn't like it too much cause there was not a good storyline to it but it focuse a lot on the character of Jasmine who is played by Cate Blanchett and she plays great. So fans of good acting might also like this one Dallas Buyesr Club: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0790636/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 Excellent, especially if you like Mathew McConaughey you wll love this one. Same goes for MUD: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0790636/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 Only movie I must have seen recently, where Kids are in it and play a big part of it, but are not annoying Escape Plan: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1211956/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 Watched because I love Arny & Sly, wasn't disappointed but if those two weren't the lead characters the movie would just be... meh Falling Down http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106856/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 Classic although there are better ones these days. Gravity Fell asleep Riddick from 2013: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1411250/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 I love Sci-Fi, I like Vin Diesel so this one was quite Entertaining, although I am missing more Sci-Fi feeling White House Down: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2334879/?ref_=nv_sr_1 Watched it because... I didn't have anything more useful to do. I wasn't expecting much, still got disappointed. Stupid dialogues arguing about nothing that does nothing to the story which is complete shit anyways, so many scenes couldn't be more unrealistic and the best thing to sum that movie up is the 100 Things I learned from "White House Down" List here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2334879/board/nest/216743477?ref_=tt_bd_5 If you expect cool one-liners: you are wrong here, move on. If you expect cool but plausible actions like some 80s and 90s movies had... move on. This is just a plain stupid glorification of some american superhero (Channing Tatum) saving the president (that is a douchebag (Fox)). Although you wouldn't expect much from Emmerich, this is one of his worst movies

Father James is a good priest who is faced with sinister and troubling circumstances brought about by a mysterious member of his parish. Although he continues to comfort his own fragile daughter and reach out to help members of his church with their various scurrilous moral- and often- comic problems, he feels sinister and troubling forces closing in, and begins to wonder if he will have the courage to face his own personal Calvary. loved it, got pretty good reviews all around also
