Watch this simply because I have no halloween party plan & work ended at 9pm (fucking Korean bank). But damn this is a nice surprise. The story is unexpectedly rich with a good plot, somewhat confusing story (never watched Insidious 1 though). I like the concept of an alternate spiritual world, albeit the not so good executing. All the sound, surprise images, movement are good enough, well-timed and most importantly not repetitive.
I'd say it beats The Conjuring convincingly for the better horror movie title this year. Decent entertainment for a terribly exhausting Thursday night

I guess you didn't like Sunshine or 2001: A Space Odyssey either? Those are all very similar movies, except ER had the smallest budget (similar to Odyssey, but 10 million back then was worth a lot more and combination of Clarke and Kubrick had to be a success).
Kickass 2: If you have not seen kickass 1: It is about someone who simply decides to become a super hero, but does not have any superpowers. He then gets almost killed when he tries to do good deeds, he ends up in the hospital with stabbing wounds and severe nerve damage. Kickass one is very graphic and not a kids superhero movie, but a very dark and humorous outlook on the whole superhero genre. If you like the first, you will love the second one. I think it is just as awesome and finds new ways to distinguish itself, because the realistic violence in contrast to the fantastic theme is not what carries this movie like it did part 1. After the credits there even is a hint to a possible part three, aww yeah!
The Croods. This movie just passed by on me, I did not even know it was in cinema, probably because I was outdoors all summer. However it seems to have had success, which it deserves. What makes this dreamworks cgi peace special is that the writers just seemed so free and inspired, the flintstone setting is rather unused and they take their very own approach to it. Really good movie, specially to watch with family or friends.
Turbo. And another CGI work. I liked Samuel L. Jackson in it. The story is the classical superhero story. The dream, the Metamorphosis, the fight, the developement. The movie is directed towards 3 to 5 year olds and where other movies like toystory 3 manage to entangle and mix in enough smart stuff to be almost more entertaining to grown ups, this movie simply does not. It is Lego Duplo, not Lego : / .
Pacific Rim. Soulless, dull, unoriginal crap. Even the fight scenes are boring here. This just made me want to watch NGE, which is infinitely more interesting in every way.
Actually thought it was great! Pretty awesome movie and the cinematography as everyone's been saying is fantastic. I was marginally disappointed because I had really high expectations going in though.

You said it yourself. similar movies. for a small budget movie you need to make a difference and not be similar to others.
In past 2 days I've watched The Sitter, Great Gatsby and James Bond Skyfall. All were pretty great movies.
The Sitter was fun, as was expected. It wasn't great but the corny jokes were fun enough for me.
The Great Gatsby was great. I really liked the cinematography and the soundtrack. Acting was superb, but the script was a bit crammed up, at least when compared to the book. Overall a great experience
Skyfall was great. I don't get why some people don't like it. It was one of the better Bond movies in Daniel Craig era, and it didn't take itself too seriously. I think this was the best movie I saw this weekend.
Some time ago I also watched Woody Allen's Manhattan and Annie Hall. I like Annie Hall the better out of the two. Manhattan had some great jokes, but I somehow felt bored by it. Hannah and Her Sisters still remains my favourite Woody Allen film.
Saw Bad Grandpa last night. As someone who has never watched any of the jackass movies or anything, decided to see this last night and good lord was it hilarious. Would recommend anyone who is looking for a good comedy to see it, laughed my ass off.
Watched Night of the Living Dead (only the greatest horror movie ever) in theater on Halloween, that was cool.
Also at bad movie nite tonight saw Night of the Demons 2, which was really fun, and the movie wasn't actually that bad, it was sorta good, it had a rather interesting vision at least.
I watched Gravity. I thought it was both really good and really horrible. As others have said, the cinematography was excellent. They did an excellent job portraying how big and empty and scary space is. So quiet and lonely and beautiful too. However there were a few unrealistic elements that bothered me, such as thw fact there was no gravity pull that necessitated Ryan releasing Kowalski. I don't know how she missed getting shredded by the debris every time. Also how did she not get electrocuted when she let all that water into the pod? Also watched Riddick recently. I had mixed feelings on it. I thought the cgi was really good and there was some good moments to it. But the ending was the most cheesy thing I have ever seen. Really disappointed me. Also I was fairly upset when they killed his dingo dongo thing. I had gotten fairly attached to it.
I started watching black and white movies recently and here's two of the ones I just watched:
Metropolis: this movie is released in 1927. I am so impressed with everything about this movie. The message is a political one and can be a bit hard to get at first but the message is quite clear, all classes must communicate in order for the community to work, "The Mediator Between Head and Hands Must Be the Heart" There are only two cons that I have found: there are some parts of the film not retrievable, therefore the story can get a little bit weird, jumping from one scene to another sometimes at a weird pace. Characters are not introduced properly. I find the "villain" was very poorly introduced and some events just seemed unnecessary.
Lord of the Flies (1963): One of the reasons why I watch this movie is because I am trying to help my dad to read the English book. I watched this movie when I was 12, and it was just unforgettable experience because it is one of the first few times when I get in touch with the topic of dystopia. The story is undoubtedly amazing, and the movie was so very well filmed that in terms of quality, I would rate it side by side with the book. The black and white actually makes the movie have a even more powerful atmosphere than what it would have been in colour.
The slight issue for me is the sound quality is fairly poor, it makes they sound a bit too robotic and in some parts it really gets in the way. The music is mostly well timed and short. The actors talk a bit slower than modern movie, which is expected since they are kids and it is said that modern society speaks faster than before.
If anyone is thinking to watch some black and white movies and dunno where to start, this is the first one you should be looking at.
10/10 all time classic ======================================================================================
The Machinist (also known as: WTFYOOOOO U GHOST OR WUT?) why? click here (beware if you are a bit sensitive)+ Show Spoiler +
Christian Bale, what an actor. I honestly watched this movie just because of his dedication on acting this character out. Look at that, he is paper weight and not done by make ups or CGI, he was this thin.
Sadly I didn't really find the movie that interesting. It was a little bit too predictable. It feels like a modern remake of some hitchcock movies but failed on getting it right. I quite liked the idea of the story (basically he hasn't slept for years and started seeing things) but the things he see and all the surprise plot is too weak for my taste.
Next movies I will watch: Triumph of the Will (1935) - Basically the most famous Nazi Propaganda movie/documentary. Can watch this on youtube for free. Expecting it to be a bit boring but interesting in some other way.
Watched Equilibrium for the first time, was really impressed by it! Would rate it 9/10. The setting is very solid and you get introduced to it little by little. The story is believable, the acting pretty good and the action is well choreographed.
Star Trek Into Darkness: 9/10 Second movie. I also loved the first one. But this one is better. You don't have to be a Trekkie to love these movies!
Man of Steel: 8/10 Pretty good. Good fight scenes. 1 remark: It is impossble that Superman his hair stays perfect after he was punched through 2 buildings. There isn't even dust on his hair.

Well he puts Gravity as a garbage movie. :> No matter how bad someone might find the plot etc. It is simply not possible to call Gravity "garbage" considering what kind of movies are produced which could easily be named just that. The technical achievement is just too fucking good.

You didn't find the story -too- similar to Fahrenheit 451 or 1984? I thought it was an ok'ish actionflick, but beyond that it was nothing special.
