@GolemMadness : Let's note that the Big Combo being a mediocre noir makes it a pretty good movie :p The average quality of te genre is simply amazing imo. The debate on The Godfather vs Chinatown is pretty funny. Let's note that I haven't seen Chinatown (but given that I don't like Polanski much, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't change much), but I don't think the influence is as clear cut as farvacola would make you believe. First thing is that the Godfather is in a group with Citizen Kane, Casblanca and The Searchers that americans tend to overrate, in terms of quality and influence because they all talk to the american psyche (and I say that but I like those movies a lot). But for instance, it's pretty clear that Casablanca's actual influence on filmmaking is very slim. On the other hand, a movie like Cat People is not on the AFI's list, and is not very famous, but it's probably one of the most influential movie of all time, as about every thriller/horror movie after it was influenced... So unless you're a movie historian, it will take me a bit more than that to decide which of those two movies is the most influential. And anyway, I believe that despite their respective qualities, their influence really hasn't been positive, so why would they fight for that title ? :p

As far as I'm concerned, that you've seen one and not the other proves my point

Edit : also I have seen turkish star wars and not Scarface, what should we conclude ? :p

Well Scarface is a terrible movie so that sounds good to me

After watching the first season of the new Hannibal series I decided to rewatch some of the old movies (damn those big breaks between seasons). Out of the more known movies (e.g. Silence of the Lambs, Red Dragon, Hannibal, Hannibal Rising) I chose to only rewatch Lambs, as the others weren't that good imo. Somehow I missed Manhunter before, maybe because it's not fully faithful to the book or has a rather average rating (7.2 imdb). For anybody that has only seen the "original" Hannibal movies, Manhunter (1986) is basically about the tooth fairy case (Red Dragon), but was actually made way before Silence of the Lambs (1991) and therefore way before Red Dragon (2002). Anyways, pretty much everything in this movie is superb. The acting is brilliant, especially William Petersen as Wil Graham. I usually really like Edward Norton, but if you compare his performance to Peterson, then I have to say that he gets simply outplayed. If you compare Manhunter, Red Dragon and Hannibal (tv series) with each other, then you can also see that the series surprisingly took alot more after the more dated movie Manhunter. You might NOT like the movie if you can't get over the 80s style (the only point where I prefer Red Dragon), you expect an Anthony Hopkins Hannibal (Manhunter is not about Hannibal, but Wil Graham), or when you are one of those guys that goes mental when a movie is not 100% faithful to the book it's based on.
Anyways I'm happy I gave this one a chance and I look forward to rewatch Lambs once again (it's been a long time and I'm afraid I might hate Jodie Foster lol). By the way after watching I looked for Manhunters rating on rottentomatoes and there it has 94% (wow) and 70% from the audience (damn people hate on this movie).

Kick-Ass 2
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/gOAuXr1.jpg) Holy Fuck is Night Bitch hot.
So, the first time I watched Kick-ass, I knew literally nothing about it, and it ended up being my favorite movie that year. So I did the same for this movie, (did not watch the trailer, not look at any reviews) and I'll admit the first half is every bit as good as Kick-Ass 1. Mintz, and Carey both give near - oscar performances, to the same token as Ledger. Aaron Johnson and Chloe Moretz can do no wrong.
The thing that really wears down the film is once the shit hits the fan, the movie loses its charm and has some cringeworthy zach Snyderesque action scenes. The major deaths are not handled well which is sad because, "Switch to Kryptonite!" was mindblowing. (And theres like 3 of those scenes.) SPOILER + Show Spoiler +when Colonel Stars and Stripes dies, its not that bad of a scene, but its what happens after, there is literally no sadness or anything from Justice Forever, and they just sort of gloss over it, when it IS the turning point in the film.
The thing that makes both Kick-Ass's work, is the real heart that makes you care for the characters and cheer for them, and while they do a commendable job for the second movie, the last half feels so out of place.
Also, there are like 7 nerdchill moments. and... SUPER MAJOR SPOILER + Show Spoiler +hit girl kissing kick-ass was a perfect way to edge on Kick-Ass 3. "What was that??" "Our first kiss." although night bitch and kick-ass make a good pair.
my fan review 9/10 objective review 5/10

I JUST finished watching Friday. Shit is relaxing to watch for me lol not sure why XD

I've recently watched Wolverine. I think it's good, especially the graphics. I don't think I'm 100% satisfied with the fighting scenes though. + Show Spoiler +A character in the movie bothers me, too, that red-headed Japanese girl. I forgot her name. Her bangs bothers me, I think she looks funny with it.

wolverine . . .possibly the worst new age film with hype ive ever seen, nothing wrong with the acting and sequences of course . . but . . erm nothing actually happened, far too much talking and trying to make you care about . . something??? not enough fighting and special crazy bits imo. i did however like the debuff in this movie cos lets face it, wolverine comes across as a little op
EDIT:noodle i agree! i expected a lot more and got a lot more out of pacific rim and superman for my balls to the wall action with little else getting in the way!
|
Yeah, I think the same way. In fact, I think the story progress was kind slow if it weren't for Hugh Jackman and the character of Wolverine itself, I wouldn't enjoy it. Good thing they were able wrap it up, but I rather say its good but not satisfactory. The ending was good, but predictable in my perspective.

Kick-Ass 2 might as well be called Hit-Girl. She carried the film and was the only "real" superhero. + Show Spoiler +That stimpack scene was surreal. Stay after credits for a scene.

The wolverine was the last movie I saw. I was loved it more than I expected. The action and fights were awesome. The story was pretty good, not the greatest. But the movie was a fun time. Hugh Jackman is a beast he got so ripped its crazy. But I can't wait for the next X-Men movie, X-men days of future past.

Oh, she won for that? I don't know why I care about the oscars anymore.

I think it was always known to be Hit Girl's movie.

Just watched Drug War, a Chinese (Hong Kong) movie by Johnnie To, which came out within the last year or so... It was pretty good for a serious drug action movie, though some parts are a bit dumb. I'd say it's about a 7/10, which is quite high for movies in my books. Definitely worth watching if you don't mind subtitles and like drug scandal police stuff (or whatever).
Wolverine was alright, too. It surpassed my expectations, though the ending was far from satisfying. Definitely could have had a better plot, but I did enjoy the Japanese theme and setting. The action/fight scenes were so-so, but Wolverine/Hugh do well and help carry the movie. There are some things which was hinted at earlier in the movie, but is never explained or used later on, so you're left wondering what some guy was talking about. But other than that, it's a pretty solid 6/10. Right above the "worth watching but not anything great" rating.
And Natalie Portman did a good job acting in Black Swan. That was a good movie!! Though Oscars are truly one of the most meaningless things. There are thousands of no-name actors and debut actors who do infinitely better than any prime-time one that no one has ever heard of and they get zero recognition for it. Movie industry is just as bad if not worse than music industry in that regard.
