![]() Post-apoc setting, where Elvis became the king of the US after the nuclear apocalypse. Somewhat amusing, but not very good. Only worth it if you're into early rock and post-apoc scenarios. ![]() Mutant Chronicles, based on the swedish pen and paper RPG by the same name. Somewhat true to the setting, but overall acting and pacing is a bit slow.

also saw primer a few days ago. a bit pedantic, but it's really unique. i'm not sure anyone would really be able to get this film - it's so convoluted!

![]() 9/10 Very intense and close to the historical background. Awesome actors. It's about the German terrorist group Red Army Faction (RAF) that sought to "abolish the (capitalist) system" with violent measures from the 1970s-90s. + Show Spoiler + "Objection is when I say: this doesn't suit me. Resistance is when I make sure that what doesn't suit me never happens again." — Ulrike Meinhof the vans which are destroyed by students close to the beginning belong to "Die Bildzeitung".. that's more or less the German equivalent to Fox News

I haven't read any of the comics before, and hadn't read anything about the movie, so knew practially nothing going into the theatre. I guess it was alright, but god damn it was so long!! And I really didn't know what to make of it all, it felt like there were so many different storylines and stuff that didn't make much sense ![]() I think it would've been a better experience if I had read some of the comics before seeing it. Watchmen: 5/10 Saw it two days ago. In my opinion, it was pretty good. I did read the graphic novel several times before, though.. it is one of my favourite graphic novels ever. Jack Znyder(sp?) received alot of critique because the movie follows the comic book too closely. Too closely as in the literary techniques used in the comic book is also used in the movie. That does not always work and some of the parts are really messy and hard to understand, unless you read the comic book like I did. I noticed that my friend, with whom I saw the movie, was confused at some of what was going on because of this. Also, the comic book has alot more events than the movie, obviously. Some interesting characters were left out and the ending was changed somewhat. However, God-damn that was one of the best sex-scenes I have ever seen in a non-porn movie lawl.. and not only that, some scenes were extremely graphic (guy gets hot oil poured over him lol, guy's arms are cut off with an angle grinder lol, etc) I am surprised the theatrical release was not censored. I remember seeing a severely censored Robocop, back in the day.. those days are gone looks like. Anyway, I recommend for anyone about to watch the movie to read the comic novel first. 8/10 - I really liked it, but the messy transition to film ruined the story a bit. Overall, acting and especially photo was excellent. See it, if not for the story do it for the sex-scene.

I don't think religulous is meant to persuade people or anything, Maher is just showing that the average religious person even the average priest/rabbi or whatever doesn't know shit about anything. And shows how asinine religion can be when compared to other fake things like the easter bunny or whatever. Pretty sure he even says in the movie something about how you can't change people's minds anyways. About Cicade De Deus vs SlumDog, they are nothing alike. City is a great original movie, slumdog is typical recycled garbage. Of course you can draw paralells when movies have kids doing crimes in some 3rd world ghetto but that is the only similarity. Anyone who says Slum is like City is retarded imo. On March 02 2009 15:05 ProdT wrote: I just saw primer, it was very good. Any other interesting science fiction movies? Cube

Anyone who says Slum is like City is retarded imo. Cube i'm not saying religulous was made for that purpose - it's obviously a comedy, and a decent one at that, which is why my rating of it is positive. i've heard a lot of people citing this movie as some kind of effective criticism of christianity though, and that's really just beyond its scope and not the intention, as you said. i'll give you the benefit of doubt that you didn't intentionally quote my post and call me retarded for no particular reason. the parallels i'm drawing are primarily atmospheric, so i think we pretty much agree there. city of god is much more violent, complex, and unique. other than that, there aren't too many similarities, but you can tell that the directors of slumdog millionaire had seen city of god and were influenced by it. as for slumdog millionaire being recycled garbage, i'm not sure if i'd go that far. the film has a very simple and predictable plot, but the cinematography and storytelling is fantastic. the acting is decent, but not out of this world. did it deserve as many academy awards as it got? of course not. it benefited from the timing of its release -- just before the awards, whereas arguably better films like milk and frost nixon came a few months earlier. also, it focuses on a foreign country and the unlikely achievement of happiness and success in the face of an oppressive environment, which are two things the academy historically gets hard-ons for. will check out cube, thanks!

Fifth Element: 6/10. Milla is damn sexy in this movie, and there's enough action and comedy to keep it entertaining throughout. Nothing special though. (2nd time I've seen the movie now)

Oh fuck you both. Just watched this with a bunch of people and we had to make fun of this movie to make it enjoyable. We watched 2 movies tonight: Twilight and this. Twilight was total teen garbage and still was more captivating than this. IMDB lied to me. 8.2 score + awards my dick. We have narrowed down the abnormally high score to two theories. Artsy people over rating something. Or all the people in Norway voted this movie up. Because a complete lack of good dialogue or feeling does not create a good movie. The tension it built up was sparse between a completely lack luster and plain boring movie. Every scene in a movie should have a purpose with no filler. This had filler and I don't know why. I'm getting really tired of movies like No Country for Old Men and Let the Right One in. At least in no country you had an outstanding performance by a villain with good dialogue (when the villain talked at least). Lack of good dialogue + silence does not create this super atmosphere that makes these movies good. We provided far more dialogue than the movie. And we even gave it a chance for the atmosphere it was trying for to create kick in. Over rated trash.
