Ip Man (2008)...It's been a while since I enjoyed a movie this much.

It also has one of the sickest fight scenes I've ever seen.

Red Riding Hood

Smoke and mirrors at its finest. I must say I've been tricked by this movie a lot. First of all, it was directed by Catherine Hardwicke, who recently spewed Twilight. Then there's the title, which reminds me of nothing but a corny children's fairy tale. So, with pretty low expectations and bullshit radar jammed I sat to watch this movie...
I must say that I'm glad I've been tricked as with all the safety measures down I had time to view this movie with much more open mind and it did deliver. You've got really nice sets and aesthetics, oversaturated colors, emphasis on key things, trees with giant thorns and all that which instantly moves you to the fairy tale land. But that's just another deception, because under the hood (all pun intended) it's actually a very decent psychological thriller as well as love story. Gary Oldman pretty much steals the show when he makes his appearance, but that's a good thing. Throughout the movie you're given clues as to who's the wolf and you can't really figure it out until the big reveal. I like this approach of flinging blame, true clues mixed with deception left and right to keep you guessing, I don't like how some movies point to the bad guy right from the get go and focus on the pika-boo action.

Overall it's a pretty damn good movie that'll get you hooked.
Time is precious. Waste it wisely.

yup its a chick flick, but its honestly the best chick flick i've ever seen in my life. i usually hate those movies but this film has great acting, the characters are very real and the way they communicate is very real. 9.5/10 from me

also watched this 2 days ago:

walked into this because of the high reviews. all i can say is its....different. It's very indy arthouse whatever, so its a bit strange. it's very slow, the main character barely ever speaks and it just wasn't for me. 6/10

Your brain is wrong. I think by 'indy arthouse whatever' you mean that it is made in an interesting way and the central character has depth, it was the opposite to slow, I feel it could've gone on for at least another 30 minutes. To see this film even put in the same post as Bridesmaids is staggering ><. Sorry to be defending this so vehemently but Drive is easily one of the best films of the past few years and well worth anybody's time.

Here are some film's that I saw recently that may not be worth your time:

Feel asleep half way through, all I gathered was that people were getting sick and Matt Damon was pissed off at something.

It's taken the name of an awesome sci-fi horror and unashamedly applied the modern Hollywood horror formula to it. The result isn't good, just really, really mediocre.

Very good film imo, but not for the faint of heart, some pretty disturbing stuff in it. Would definitely recommend if you want something original, but I'd probably watch it alone... once.

I just saw Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy about a week ago and it blew my mind. Definitely going to see it again. Such a good plot and the timeline gets warped like crazy, I loved it.

Not always a fan of Kung Fu movies, but this one was indeed totally awesome. The version I watched was wacky though, it was subtitled, but only for the Chinese parts. The Japanese characters spoke in Japanese without subtitles. I thought it was intentional at first, but then there were a few scenes that lasted for minutes that were completely incomprehensible to me. It was kind of a cool effect though, since none of the Chinese characters in the film spoke Japanese (other than the translator) so it was like watching the movie from the perspective of one of the Chinese spectators.

Just saw this one the other night:

Available on Netflix instant view. Not for everyone, but I found it fucking hilarious. Really reminded me of the Evil Dead series or Hot Fuzz/Shawn of the Dead. Only recommend it if you can handle both extreme silliness and gore. If that's your thing though, this movie is fantastic. Oh, and stay the hell away from the trailer if you're at all interested. The trailer gives away at least 75% of the movie, and the 3rd act (which is the only part not shown at all in the trailer) is by far the weakest part of the film.

Edit: to those of you who have seen the new The Thing, was it really that bad? John Carpenter's version is my favorite horror movie of all time, and while I was sure a remake would never live up to it, I was really hoping it would be at least entertaining. Was it a straight remake, or a new interpretation?

Browse a couple of pages back. There's been quite a discussion here about it. Bottom line: They wanted to make prequel but what you get is re-make where they speak Norwegian instead of English. CGI looks good but the tension and thrill from the original is somehow gone.
Watch at your own risk. I was rather disappointed with it, some people loved it (probably those who haven't seen the original or have seen it ages ago and don't remember it).

So I saw Warhorse a few days ago.

It was an interesting event. The movie in itself is touching, but also rather unrealistic (which ends up considerably taking away from the overal feel of the movie) but it does make you get teary eyed and want to cheer at other times.

Overall I'd say 8/10. Some of the scenes were really nicely done as well
