I seriously wanted to jump in there and slap him in the face. Jesus christ, that one act made me so mad. Because like 10k ravens were about to attack him. Not scary? He is just a coward, he was raised with fear and disgust so he carries himself as a disgusting person. Hehe, Sam one of the smartest persons? LOL! I realize smart is something that seems to be very subjective. Tyrion, tywin, varys, and Littlefingers are smart. Sam may be well informed, but he is simply too coward to make any smart decisions, or put that vast array of information he has in his head, to any use. Fear stops everyone from being smart.

Sometimes being hesitatnt and cautious -is- being smart. He's still alive unlike a lot of the other crows.

Do you think one dagger is going to defeat an army of white walkers or that they can make magic copies of the dagger for the entire night's watch?

Arya also told Tywin that one of the female targaryens who rode one of the historic dragons was an idol of her. When she was working in Harrenhall as his room servant. En also Viserys said the brave men didn't fight the dragons, they rode them. When in bath with the slavegirl handmaiden of his sister.

Well all the Watch has is men with SWORDS which apparently DON'T WORK. So yeah, a dagger that can roflstomp a white walker seems like a big deal. Maybe they could learn what it is and get more or make more.

No but I bet you if he walks into another white walker it'd be nice to have... Are you suggesting leaving your only weapon to kill a magical enemy in the snowy ground that you'll never see again is a good idea? Even slightly smart? No it's a fucking stupid scene and it goes against everything "book smart" Sam is, he may be a coward but he's not retarded and he understands magic dagger (or obsedian dagger, same diff for the purpose) to kill magic enemy is a good thing to have; Sam the stupid would leave the dagger, average joe the mediocre intelligence would pick up the dagger so either Sam is incredibly stupid (dumber then the average guy who understands killing magical badass's is a good thing) or the scene and written log of Sam in this scene is obscene.

Or maybe the Dagger broke after he stabbed the white walker? Has any one considered this as a possibility? I don't really remember much from the scene so I can't say whether or not it did, just throwing it out there as an idea?

Everyone who thinks Sam is stupid for leaving the dagger just totally ignores the biggest reason. He's in total panic mode. A white walker just attacked him. And while he died, there is still an insane amount of birds about to attack him. People often don't think clearly in a situation where their lives are at stake. Instincts take over, in this case the reflex to run.

Makes no difference to have that dagger or not, he's still going to die if he gets surrounded by White Walkers. The knowledge that dragonglass kills WW is the only valuable thing.

Oh Dragonglass... well still. Having it will help his chances more then not having it. It's only logic, if you want to survive have a weapon with you. The only other weapon he had was his sword and it shattered.
