I'm pretty sure the zombies were just used to lure in Fantasy nerds. "Look! it has zombies! magical zombies!" - I remember reading the first chapter and thinking I'm about to get into some serious high fantasy nonsense.
Then the actual series happens and all is good. The zombies/dragons are just a fantasy flavor added to sell the books. Had GRRM just said "guys I wrote a re-telling of The War of the Roses" no one would care.

If Sam is the key to winning the war against the White Walkers, I'm done with this show forever. Hahaha! Sam is really bothering me right now. Maybe I just dont get his important part in the show right now, hopefully it will change soon so his screen time isn't completely useless to me ^^ I don't understand the hate for poor old Sam. Is it really just because he's not kick-ass like the other characters? He's your average Joe, forced into that situation and not knowing how to deal with it. It's refreshing to see a perfectly normal dude, and not a character that isn't kicking ass in one way or another all the time. Because he is useless, fat and whiny. Even Hotpie was more useful than Sam which says a lot. Wow. I'm glad you're having such a sophisticated opinion on characters. Seriously tho I started to dislike him after he whined about being left behind. Why did they even bring him with them? It makes no sense.
Since Aemon is too old they needed Sam to write letters and send ravens from their position beyond the wall. He was their replacement Maester.

I hate sam because the character is intolerably implausible. There is simply no way he could maintain that level of obesity in the frigid north with little food.

So you'll suspend your disbelief for the sake of dragons, zombies, shadow demons, and resurrection, but not for fat kids?
Wha?

hmm yeah it's true, why is he so fat? One guy starved to DEATH recently, yet Sam hasn't used up his reserves. I wouldn't say the character is implausible though. As if being fat makes up his whole character.

It rules simply differ from our own. No where in the rules of this Universe has it been implied that you can be fat without cause.

How would I know what makeup the characters wear? You know they wore makeup and perfume back in the day, right? Regardless theres a clear distinction between inconsistencies [which is what your implying, but failing to do] in cosmetic design and an obese character amongst starving comrades. The latter makes no sense within the mechanics of the Universe or the plot.

You know it's a good show when all people can complain about is how one character is "magically" fat.

Am I the only one who thinks that the show will end with the undead being dragon'd and Dany taking the Throne?

Most of the people in that show is thick and fairly good looking withouth a cause (as you should know, their diet shouldn't allow for that). Get over it.

Hey Sam lost weight, he said it himself! They did a Hurley and said you don't notice if someone lose weight if someone is that fat. (ofc he didn't lose wait for real, but atleast they pointed it out)
Why do the useless arguments always start at the end of the week.

Because everyone circlejerks in anticipation of the coming episode

You are aware that obesity can be caused by factors other than diet right?

Yes, I'm sure Sam has a severe thyroid issue.
What an idiotic modern response. Hes not experiencing a single symptoms of anything except obesity, which he himself has admitted stems from over eating and laziness. Which results in his current obesity being entirely inexplicable and magic. I'll admit it may not be when I start to see related symptoms and a general deterioration of health outside of his fatness.
