Considering his behaviour and his treatment/humiliation of Tyrion later during the wedding, I'd say he was planning on being a dick either way, he just happened to have a good opportunity right after. He probably just said that to throw him off and deliver a bigger blow with his next douchebaggery. | ||

They aired the Blackwater episode on memorial day and they saw a big ratings dip because of the holiday. This was their climactic episode and the most expensive. Clearly they wanted to get rating that reflect that and they started skipping memorial day in season 3. | ||
