"When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east," said Mirri Maz Duur. "When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves. When your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child. Then he GoT will return, and not before."
GRRM predicted the 6th book to be released in 2014 I think. But we all know what happened with his last predictions. We can just hope the show puts a bit of pressure on his shoulders to write faster.
NPR had a story not too long ago that GRRM is busy derping around with anything but writing the next book. Apprently HBO has been getting annoyed.
... But many fans are grumbling that Martin hasn't been spending enough time of late in his mythical kingdom of Westeros and its surroundings. On the list of things Martin is doing instead of writing the next Game of Thrones book? Reviewing the latest episodes of Breaking Bad, editing a sci-fi series and writing a novella.
This summer, even HBO's execs piped up, saying that they'd really appreciate it if Martin were to "get busy writing" ...

That seems typical of businesses trying to take advance of other people's successes, such as HBO, and to put pressure on GRRM to continue helping them make their money. Even though Game of Thrones might be hugely important to HBO and us in terms of fantasy novels/shows, it might not be his top priority despite it being his most popular work.
In comparison, my college school work is probably the most "important" thing that I do at the moment, which I do enjoy, but it isn't more fun that the sports I do, my girlfriend, traveling, cooking, etc. People need to give GRRM some slack and let him live his life and fantasies the way he wants to -- he has no doubt deserved at least that much after finally becoming so successful with decades of hard work and creativity.

Haha that's great. Yeah... I guess GRRM isn't our bitch. I still can't help but worry whether or not he will finish A Song of Ice and Fire before something happens to him, like Robert Jordan and Wheel or Time. However, if Brandon Sanderson picks up The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring like he did for the Wheel of Time, I couldn't fathom any complaints! Loved his Mistborn Trilogy.

As amazingly sad as it would be if he where to pass away or similar, he has passed on what he considers to be the ending of the series to the producers of GoT. So we will get an ending either way. I just hope its because he finished the books.
But there is a problem for HBO and the show, in that in 2 years the show will have caught up with the books. Another book will probably be finished by then, so it can run for another year after..and then theres a good possibility there will be several years waiting for the next book and season, and then 3-4 more years for the supposedly last season after that.
He can be as happy as he wants after he's done. It'll be a real mess if the rather obese martin dies off before he's done. God knows I have doubts the show will adequately handle the later books. It'll be too many threads to handle effectively and they'll botch it.

Yep. Which is why it's hard to accept that he can do whatever he wants. He's like George Lucas, except good.

It would be very fitting though. You don't get what you want in life, Robb didnt win the war, Ned died, the characters you love die, and GRRM dies before the 7th book. Epic ending.

Yeah, seriously. That'd be fitting -- like if he dies on his 77th birthday while eating a 7 course meal or something. Gets shot by Adam Sandler or something unexpected
