- Denies his sister and coworkers a proper funeral because he wants to have his little ritual - Leaves his son with a wanted fugitive - Leaves his girlfriend of a month or two with a god damn kid Who writes this shit, Dexter was saved by the "power of love" rofl Masuka shit went nowhere, Quinn and Tista went nowhere, Saxon was a good actor and fun to watch but introduced in the silliest way possible, and way too late. Also the elephant in the room is that everyone wanted the end game to involve people finding out what Dexter does. It's funny because someone mentioned six feet under and in that show, which I won't spoil even though it's old, they also have one of those things where at some point, a character is at the hospital, post-op, everything seems to be great. Then he dies unexpectedly. The thing is, that show still had people giving a crap about the characters. In Dexter, I think that most of us didn't give much of a shit anymore. The last season is so bad that IMO it can hardly feel canonical. If Deb had died like that a few seasons ago, even one or two, it would have felt relevant, it would have been huge. But they just killed her off crudely because they can. | ||

Dexter dies Dexter is redeemed and stops killing people Dexter is caught by the police The last season should have just had three plotlines following these three endings and then pick one (or pick all of them). I guess they decided to go with Dexter dies (because he kills himself) but then they also go with Dexter redemption after that. And by redemption, I mean becoming a lumberjack. Basically, what I'm trying to tell everyone here, is that Lumberjack = Redemption. I want people to express things in their daily life in this fashion. Like "Well perhaps one day I'll learn from my mistakes and become a lumberjack," or perhaps "Only through Jesus can one become a lumberjack." | ||

I mean, kid has barely a role (plot wise) for 3 seasons in which he spend all his time with Batista's sister. Then somehow the show goes on about saying how dexter is such a good father... lol. Then the only person the kid cares about is Hannah rofl, which he barely knows. Kid doesn't shed a tear for Jamie, who is basically his mother, and everybody doesn't give a fuck. So each time we see the kid given to Jamie or Hannah in all those episodes we're like. "Dexter: Yeah I don't care about this shitty kid anyway." I mean from season 5 it was obvious Writers had no idea what to do with him so it stayed an afterthought. Strange, after the end of S4 where the kid bathe in his mother's blood I really thought he would become a major plot tool, becoming another Dexter or some stuff related. Never happened. Oh and until the eighth, he never speaks while clearly being 2 or 3 years old. Me and GF were starting to assume he's retarded. Now that I think of it... maybe he really is. | ||

As far as having an autistic child, it ain't something you can avoid, you and I have just as much chance to get one. But the point was, Harrison isn't (never mentioned) but acts as if, hence why it's funny. My post was more about the fact that Dexter is considered a great dad while he really sucks. Unless in Miami ditching your kid to the nanny 24/7 is considered good parenting. | ||

Guys, I agree that raising your child yourself is an important thing, but you really shouldn't say that engaging a nany or putting your child into a day nursery is bad parenting. Today, one of the most important issue for women is to be able to continue their careers while having a child. This is not possible if people consider them as bad mother if they do choose to put them in day nursery, or simply if there is not enough facilities in the country to take care of their child. Did you know that in Germany, natality is very low because women pretty much have to give up their career three years to raise their child ? in 20 years or so, Germany's population will decrease from 80 de 70 million people, and it's a major issue. In France, all is not perfect of course, but because there is a solid day nursery national system and also because there's lots of fiscal incentive to have children, the natality is very high for a western country. My point being: Good parenting doesn't mean you have to raise your child without exterior help. | ||

The character of Dexter was purposely flawed, and was extremely emotionally detached no matter how much he tried to work on it. | ||

Nursery is necessary, but Dexter is beyond the point of what is normal, while shoving down our throat how much of a great dad he is. I mean in some episodes its laughable how Jamie is his mother, and almost only parent. Anyway I'm not trying to make a big deal out of it. To me it is obvious that the kid was a liability to the writers that couldn't make him fit in the scenario (or barely). My point is, while this to me is very clear and Dexter end up not doing anything with it I just feel slightly insulted when they try to shove down my throat the quality of Dexter as a dad. But hey its just one of the many occasions the writers take the viewers for imbeciles. A bit like Hannah, the fugitive running around her hair in the wind in a red dress. I mean come on. | ||
