clearly sharingan is badass. and clearly it is a large part of the storyline (which is probably why so many characters have it....) but it certainly doesn't render everything else irrelevant.

none of the hokages have had eye techniques(as far as we know). neither did jiraiya, orochimaru. neither does sasuke's hawk buddies. nor does killerbee. should I go on and on?

And Travis, why are you trying to argue about they eye techniques? It's established that they're supreme to all others, with the first hokage having the ultimate eye technique beyond sharingan. This isn't a debate. It's been flat out stated in the manga. Except there's nothing really satisfying about setting up the Naruto universe this way. People are born with this supreme power and it puts them above all others.

Then ofc, towards the end of the series we will see all these magnificently supreme eye techniques laid low by the perseverance, courage, and heart of one bumbling stupid, yet compassionate and generous Uzumaki Naruto. If you can't foresee this pathetically corny end coming to the series, then I'm not sure what to say. It seems very clear to me that the series will end in this way, it will be annoying and cheesy, and I will be pissed that I've spent six or seven years following it.

It seems to be one giant commentary on society and about how people shouldn't look down on others. And it doesn't matter how talented/smart/beautiful you are, that's what you're born with. What matters is how hard you try etc etc ad nauseam. We got the point of this message by the end of the chuunin exams. The fact that Toriyama is still harping on this same stupid lesson is really tiresome.

You all seem to be forgetting that this is a shonen series. The protagonist will always triumph with the power of his heart and soul, however senseless the damn idea is. The Byakugan in the hands of a completely unhindered ninja (IE one that does all forms of it instead of just stupid Jyuuken) would be a real force to be reckoned with.

The Sharingan is freakishly overpowered though, even the three tomoe'd variation is ridiculous. You could make a case that the Mangekyou is "rare" but it seems that any Uchiha of import has it so that goes right out the window.
