Who are the senjus in the current time and era? Seems like people from the Leaf village have various skill sets, possess the so called "Will of Fire".. but instead of being more powerful than the Uchiha, they are seem equally weak.. Fearing the Uchiha clan to the extent of resorting to getting Itachi to assassinate them all
You don't need to depend on gimmicky infestors if your marines have BC hp and are permanently stimmed.

I guess I'm just curious why nobody holds the last name "Senju". Even if there is cross marriage, there must still be someone amongst the entire former Senju clan that hold on to the last name. Unless their descendents are all women? The only direct descendent ever mentioned in the manga is Tsunade, and even then, her last name was never brought up. Also, Sarutobi Hiruzen is said to possess the "Will of fire" too (I suppose that means he's part of the Senju? possessing the body of the sage), but his last name is Hiruzen. And even among Naruto's broken clan -- the Uzumaki, there are still fugitives in hiding that still bear that last name.

Narutoget.com is the best site in the world (Besides TL). My brother told me about it when he came back for spring break. I was about to buy the entire first season. I have watched like 82 episodes in 2 weeks. God I love Naruto. I remember when I was little I made up a snow nation. Ahhhh good times. Is Naruto Shippuden still going on? Are they planning on creating more? I would kill for a non animated movie of Naruto. (Maybe in like 5 years?) I think the saddest part so far is when Bushy brows gets finally beaten by Gaara and he stands back up even though he is unconscious. That entire battle scenes/flashbacks brought tears to my eyes. I was literally tearing up. I feel that he (not gaara) has a good aspect on life. Hard work DOES yield results, however, not quick results.
God i need to get back to watching it.

My guess is they used new last name like they did with Naruto, so Senju enemies can't target them directly.

The third Hokage was a member of the sarutobi clan. Hiruzen is his first name.

I laughed way too hard at this.
But yeah, does anyone else feel like the flashback suddenly got rushed? I was hoping Madara and Hashi to stop each other's sides with their awesome skills (as each had been referred to as prodigies and had been practicing together for a long time) and then come to a sort of stop for that fight, with each promising to do what they can to influence their clan.
And I really don't know why the Uchiha are weak in this chapter. I mean, they've been going head to head for who knows how long, and then all of a sudden crushing defeat?

well Hashirama is like a one in a century genius and the Uchiha clan had people changing sides which probably got more and more common as time went on
by the time that scene happened the Uchihas would ahve been a shadow of there previous glory

Ultimately, its really up to kishi to decide how OP a jutsu is or arbitrarily impose some limit on it.
It feels like the Uchiha clan was kind of a one trick pony. Pretty decent ninjas, but a lot of their strategies were tied to the Sharingan, which as Gai showed us, was actually quite easy to counter through certain strategies. Given the Senju have had decades of experience fighting against it, its not too much of a stretch to say the Sharingan became less of an advantage as time passed. On the other hand, the Senju were a more diverse bunch.
Also, Izuna dying was probably pretty severe blow to the Uchiha. I'm guessing that he was one of their most powerful ninjas and probably a high ranking one-- basically occupying the same role as Tobirama did in the Senju clan.

Madara would easily be 2 or 3 times more powerful after getting MS (Tsukyomi, Amaterasu, Susano'o) though so Izunas death was probably a net gain for the Uchiha

Well, according to Obito, both Izuna and Madara obtained MS. Madara only obtained EMS from Izuna.
So the question is that is EMS extremely more potent than MS or does it just make it, well, eternal?

I think it's eternal since I don't ever recall them mentioning it's for potency purposes

Seems to be a combination. From the EMS you can also gain the Rinnengan. I view it as a similar upgrade from sharingan -> MS.
The downside is that the person is mentally unstable as the things they've experienced are quite awful to have led forward to the evolution of sharingan.
I think quite a few people here are forgetting that what we're hearing is the 1st hokages side of the story. Not Madaras side of the story which will undoubtedly come in a couple of chapters and that's why everything seems so weird atm.
