And as we've seen from Nagato, the price for using the Rinnegan is a shortened life-span. (Though I don't know how that works when you're already dead...)

Now that I think of it as well, Tobi did say something about using Sasuke to sync up with the Gedo Mazo... I think you need to Rinnegan to do so... So if Madara got the Rinnegan as an evolved form of the EMS, Sasuke is gonna get it as well.

I'm thinking that Tobi is Obito.
But the thing that puzzles me is that Obito lived in a time where the fourth Hokage is still the Hokage and they were still kids with Kakashi. And he definitely died because he gave his eye to Kakashi. But if Obito really is Tobi, how in the hell did he know what Itatchi did for Konoha and all the other secret only the elders know?

Well if its Nagato's six path of pain, there should be the black chakra receptors in each of the bodies right? Because that's what Nagato uses to control the six paths.
But those with Sharingan and Rinnegan are resurrected using the impure world resurrection and without any chakra receptors.

Hmm. im guessing that Tobi was a creation made by Madara to resemble himself. Suposedly you are allowed to do this if u have both rinnegan and sharingan so...

Here's my guess. I don't think Madara died at VotE. He probably got Hashirama's DNA and then faked a death, so he would have time to figure out how to achieve Rinnengan. He knew he was going to die shortly after achieving it, so he planned to give the eyes to Nagato and get revived when the time is right. Tobi was probably someone close to Madara (Izuna maybe?) and was supposed to transplant the eyes and make sure Madara gets revived. But after Madara actually died, Tobi wanted all the power for himself so he skipped the "resurrecting Madara" part. Also, I wonder where's the 2nd Rinnengan. Tobi only transplanted 1 (probably because he doesn't have Uchiha+Senjuu DNA so he can't use the Rinnengan to perform MS techniques like Madara can).

Your forgetting that he "died" at that battle so then it should have come up heh.
Also I don't think Madara having the Rinnegan explains how he knew Nagato. The timeline seems way off unless Nagato is super old (see my statement on Nagato being part of the Uzumaki clan which is well known for super long lifespans and vitality). I think Madara DID die at that battle (otherwise how could he be resurrected?) Tobi is NOT Obito get that out of your heads people the name is simply a coincidence. Tobi is some jutzu that madara used to project a clone or a part of himself (which is why at times it seems like he has no substance and can just warp around).

tobi definitely has uchiha+senjuu DNA because he was able to use izanagi which requires both
he died against konan and used izanagi to change reality so he didn't die after all
