Well a simple debunk that it's not always 7 days is the fact that not once has something burned for more than like an hour or two at most. Could you actually say the eight tail was completely burned and in five minutes? I don't think he was burned out. He turned back into his human form which supposedly put out the fire. I remember Amaterasu kept on burning, even after Sasuke and Itachi finished their fight. And it was still burning even when Naruto and the others arrived at the area. For how long though it kept burning though is unknown but probably not for seven days. | ||

It does stop burning after a time. But you can't put it out with anything, so if you get caught on fire, you're done. Unless it was an arm, in which case you just cut off the arm. | ||

When the 8 tails was caught in it and hit karin she then had it on her. Really there is no reason to think about it this much. The manga has bigger plot holes to worry about. | ||
