AKA Seven Deadly Sins
Description:
The "Seven Deadly Sins", a group of evil knights who conspired to overthrow the kingdom of Britannia, were said to have been eradicated by the Holy Knights, although some claim that they still live. Ten years later, the Holy Knights have staged a Coup d'état and assassinated the king, becoming the new, tyrannical rulers of the kingdom. Elizabeth, the king's daughter, sets out on a journey to find the "Seven Deadly Sins", and to enlist their help in taking back the kingdom.
I really really love this manga, its not original but it is high quality, high action, good characters and so far the power level of all the characters have not annoyed me.

I really like this manga, but the pacing lately makes it seem like it will end soon. Everything seems too rushed. Hopefully not, but I wish they would have taken the story more slowly to meet the other sins, get more character development, before such a big scale fight with the holy knights.

LOL blind-rawr i totally didnt see this thread and this thread deserves SO MUCH more attention.
Anyone who loves DragonBall artsyle (who doesn't?!) and loves RPG will love this manga. (Ancient+)Medieval time setting and the RPG-like spells/fighting styles are really cool. Plus did i mention that Main character is a perverted shota? I am not sure if that is supposed to a good or bad thing (lol) but with the other characters you get some really lively team for a journey to help out the princess. It is funny, chaotic and very entertaining.
And I have to mention that the story can rbe eally intense at times, dark conspiratorial plotting scenes and the stupid back stories behind the Sins that are usually tear-inducing stuffs T_T. For example, the previous chapter of the back story of that thousand years old fairy king (He is the Sloth) talked about his pure (first) love and his best friend, not spoiling it here but you can guess it, yes, blood and tears were involved.
Great pacing and actions packed - once you started to read it I bet you won't be able to stop and will join me in the waiting game of anticipating new chapter on every friday/saturday. And it gets its Anime after a mere 70~ chapters (it is a weekly manga), you should be able to tell how good it is.

Ban is Greed, but yeah both King and Ban have some really good back story, actually everyone has a good story for them.

and the thing is that it is not a generic shounen adventure save the world either, we still have so many unrevealed plots and the plots can be rather dark as a shounen. I love it.

Full Counter, owned multiple holy knights in one shot. If you played any (old) jrpg you should know this standard knight spell and full counter would be reflecting all magic/physical damage. Really cool.
I like how the Sins are presumably at really high levels with advanced spells with them but they still can get owned easily by the high level holy knights. But of course their powers are not fully unlocked, they need to find their lost ultimate weapons which is the sidequests of their journey. Totally rpg right.

The main character is not female imo
It's Melodias the captain, then you have Elizbeth the princess and one of the keys for something that's about to happen
Melodias team consists of 7 members and only one of them is a girl

I really liked this manga in the first 50ish chapters... lately it's gotten a bit weird, pacing seems off, etc.

Based on the pacing either the series will end relatively soon or + Show Spoiler +the conflict will shift from Sins vs Holy Knights to Sins/humans vs the revived Demon clan

I agree and I hope it doesn't end soon. It also seems unlikely it's in a hurry to end since it seems like it enjoys decent popularity in Japan.
Kinda funny how Ban lately has become a punching bag. Not that he wasn't always Meliodas' punching bag, but seriously he goes down like twice per chapter.

Nah, because then you would always need to watch and read everything before you can say that you dislike it. I hate ecchi and I dislike "romance"(real romance is fine), most comedies and shounen. So I'm 100% sure this is nothing for me. One Piece is as far as I go in that regard and even there, I'm not fond of the character design.

Also like that the power levels kinda fluctuate - I mean you don't really know the exact ranking between Great Holy Knight - Deadly Sin - King Arthur - Demon. Depends on the individual I suppose.

One sin missing and three holy treasures... + I want to see some more Merlin even if she looks even more OP than Meliodas...
If this manga continue, the only way I can see is by Elizabeth being kidnapped and sent to the demon world and the sins following them in the depth of hell (or whatever). If the demons have cool designs, it can works I guess.
But if this would happen to finish in a few chapters, I'd be satisfied. Better a short good manga than a manga that don't know when to stop.. (ahem... Bleach... ahem...)

Bumping up this thread as I really liked the latest chapters. I got the feels for King, rejected by his own people, who couldn't bear looking at his sister dead body... I'm curious where this is gonna head. One of my most anticipated manga of the week for sure.
On another topic I start looking at the anime and I find it pretty good. All the awesome moments are there and it's pretty close to the original. The only scene so far I've noticed removed is Ban stealing the dagger from the doctor's daughter (then being forced to give it back). I don't know why exactly they removed it, maybe cause it suggest rape ? Whatever, this scene was mostly irrelevant anyway.

By watching the 8th anime episode, I realized I had totally missed the side chapters of this manga, like the one explaining what really happened between Ban and Elaine.
I found this forum thread here and though that I may not be the only one in that case.
Btw, the last seconds of this episode... so sad...

the anime is defo a worthy adaptation at this stage, very nicely blend in the backstory with the current story. And ya Ban's side story is pretty big among the side chapters. I like that the writer did these side chapters as well, keep the current story pacing really good but gives so much more character development. (at some point i think he must be overworking, these side chapters released with the main chapters at the same time albeit they usually consist of not too many pages)

was almost entirely turned off to the manga for the shounen-esqe art style. i easily attributed it to being a fairy-tale type of manga. despite the fact we generally say "don't judge a book by it's cover" translates to manga as don't judge the artstyle for it's plot.
i'm glad it was mentioned in the entertainment thread as i would have otherwise skipped it over. TL has a track record for very-good recommendations regarding manga so i'll take a look into it.

+ Show Spoiler +For me it was fairly obvious that he was an artificial being, be it a golem or, as it is, a doll. The whole "I don't know emotions, I don't understand basic human concepts" is a good indicator in general. Adding the fact that he can be injured (quite severly) without being killed.

ok, SO GLAD i picked this up. read about 60 chapters in 2 days, very worth it.
so here's my summary so far without spoiling
the beginning is very hard to start, but man does it really get into the plot very quickly. almost no filler in this manga, the art style is essentially a more gory version of fairy tale.
the plot has very well written, almost no filler but everything leads to either a fight or progression until a fight. but the plot is very, very good. it start off more like the manwha magician where the main protagonist is more or less this elite powerhouse. the adventure aspect is very similar to one piece in a journey of discovery.
the fight scenes have managed to somewhat adopt a DBZ thing or a naruto power thing but....none of them have ridiculous stamina. it's kinda like anyone can get KO'ED in 1 shot if they are not careful but they all have ridiculous abilities.
8.5/10 for this manga is my rating so far, can't wait to catch up!

I think the Pig is much more fun/enjoyable to follow than Happy and similar side kicks. Anyone think that naming him Hawk is a nod to Berserk?

Can't wait for Hawk to have a "ITS OVER 9000!!" moment. I agree that having a system that quantifies power levels into numbers is pretty meh, not sure if that was needed except to give Hawk something.
I would agree that it is superior to Fairy Tail in many respects, though I still prefer Fairy Tail personally.

Anyway the plot is a ton more interesting then FT, it takes itself a little bit more serious but not too serious while still goofing around enough. Hawk is very entertaining and all of the Sins all seem quite interesting characters to me, I thought Ban would be boring when he was first introduced but he turned out to be quite a cool character.
I suppose problems will emerge when power levels get out of control and the main plot has been resolved but so far looking good.

Nah I actually roll my eyes when Mashima is having one of his hentai days for the most part. I do like the art style more in FT though, that is true. Plus Fairy Tail has Erza, though Diane has had her moments and Merlin has had a good run in the short time she has been here.
I do agree that the core plot is written a lot better then FTs (though not so much early on, as FT had some genuinely good early arcs back when Mashima was actually planning shit a head of time). The comedy/goofing off is pretty much a wash at this point.
I really like Ban though, hes pretty awesome and probably my favorite. Diane will probably be even better now that she isn't spending half her time being jealous of the captain. King's character design is also fucking awesome, I love the floating small character with the spear and the mannerisms that the author draws with it. However, King himself is probably among the lower teir of the Sins.

shes saying that being fairy king isnt an elected position, its a chosen one someone is chosen to be king and until a time as someone else is there simply king, as the person who was chosen as king she accepts that hes simply the best one for the job even with his one lapse in judgement

actually a lot of important stuff in the series is thrown in side chapters(especially this one), well for those who missed out on them.

Meliodas has still to use his demon blood, and Merlin did almost nothing. Diane hasn't used her weapon power too. So there is still much room left without random power up.

He still managed to protect himself from Slader's Overpower though. I think it's just that it's hard to know you've been hit by an illusion.

Merlin cant completely remove the magic on him, and normally uses a supressant so maybe the magic on him keeps constantly growing and the magic is growing faster now so he returned to human again faster then predicted?

Well as soon as the writer doesn't abuse this memory rewriting into killing them enemies but only for plot development wise, I'm fine with it, it is a good plot driver lol. The pacing of this manga never pauses I love it.

Because, let's face it, there must be a reason, otherwise after the 7DD were branded as criminal she would have gone home. (I don't think the holy knights would have risked a war with the giants in the sake of capturing her). There will be flashbacks, drama, action and one way or another that will end up with Diane gaining some kind of power-up.

well she was in love with the Captain and King (though she forgot the second one) she probably realized that eventually Meliodas would need her again so stayed nearby

Diane has apparently a huge latent power. Matrona said she could be the strongest of the giant if she wanted to. Remember that Matrona did quite well against Galan.
Ban never got back his sacred treasure, and we know how strong the 7DS become with them. That and the fact that he can't die is pretty OP too.
King is also really strong, and he never used Disaster until recently. That ability looks SO imbalanced. He is also the king of the fairies but hasn't any wing. I bet getting his wing will grant him some power-up too.
We know nothing about Gowther really. Its ability is imba, he doesn't feel pain either. And apparently he has been nerf heavily by Merlin because he is difficult to control.
And Merlin is also a bit of an interrogation since her power to teleport anyone anywhere miles away is really OP, she was the strongest power wise before Meliodas got his weapon back too. I'm pretty sure she has something under her sleeve. Remember that she is the one that actually nerfed Meliodas and Gowther. Meaning she has had a really stronger power back then.
So yeah, they all can become pretty strong realistically.

Also the huge difference of power level between Meliodas and the knight trio is kinda scary for me. Reminds me of how DBZ ended up with just Goku and sometimes Vegetta putting in work, while the rest of the guys were different levels of fodder.

it was a good trap, i think if it wasnt for him using a human body it would never have worked but because he was in one the girls power worked which created an opportunity for archers power to work
if they had tried it on Galan or one of the others they wouldnt have had feelings for the girl and would have just slaughtered them all
also his base stats seems smaller then the other demons (probably another limiter from being in a human body) so since his power was sealed also he was just a normal human against 3 holy knights

the author is actually not bad in how he paces these battles. almost every scenario is a fight but it doesn't feel...forced not like fairy tale. the people they beat never feel like random fodder or filler. most of these fights they ALMOST die and it's i'm glad the opt out mechanic is subtle. like it's not the cliche OMG A FINISHING BLOW andddddddd and i'm saved.

My guess is that in a final battle type situation it would go something like:
- They are attacked at night/ Escanor is kidnapped while he is weak and put in some power blocking thing
- The Sins need to hold out until noon/ rescue Escanor before noon.

I'd say it was probably smart to not go at him. We've seen one commandment be a killing blow to anyone who fucks up, and one which incapacitated people. The second it became a 2v2, he might have made the call that it might be too dangerous to them either way. Surviving was more important, especially since they'd have to tell people about what they learned.

Elaine is probably stronger than one of those and Elizabeth will awaken some hidden healing stuff that hard counters their poison shit.

i dont think its really a "power up" i think Kings power is sealed, something terrible happened in the past and he lost his wings and as a result cant bring up all the power he could, so right now hes using the spirit spear at its minimum capacity becuase thats all he can use, and even when he pushs himself to the limit, its still jsut the bare minimum amount of strength the "True Spirit Spear" has
it was kinda foreshadowed that his wings are returning so we likely will see him use the true power of the true spirit spear by the end of the tournament

Meliodas should group up with the rest so the mage guy can teleport them all?
Meliodas already said he needed a good opening to catch them offguard instead of going fair and honest into a 1v2, now they really need to gtfo. It was a good try but he ultimately failed, could not kill any of those two.
Also theres a Commandment I don't recognize, can see it well near the giant Dolor in page 18. Anyone got a clue who that is?

so i was thinking, why did the Goddess clan want Ban to kill Meliodas?
Meliodas single handedly started the war and was an incredible asset (presumably) in sealing the demon clan and aside from wiping out a country has been a good person, why would they want him dead especially in a situation where the seal was in jepordy?
maybe something is gonna happen now, him dieing is a catalyst that will allow the Goddess clan to do something, maybe the reason why Meliodas and Zeldris are small is some kind of seal or something placed on them, with Meliodas dead they can undo the seal and bring him back to life? maybe 3rd brother had his seal removed somehow and thats why hes so big and powerful?
just kinda shooting in the dark but maybe the Goddess clan wanted Ban to kill Meliodas because it actually does cause good things to happen

yup i think thats the foreshadowing will come back and it fits perfectly to this development. However, i don't think that it will be as simple as 'meliodas started the war singlehandedly', but his death will activate something will be the best guess now.
Hope Ban come back and become stronger. Maybe they can do a cliche 'fight all the way back up from hell/netherworld'

Do you guys think that maybe when a true demon like Meliodas dies (or one of his brothers) they are simply returned to the demon realm as souls? He could be doing some hardcore training off-screen in hell ATM, while the Goddesses try to revive or resummon him back.

Thinking about it, swordsman dude took a gray demon on his own, while before it took Hendy, Gil and Howzer to kill one. Arthur this chapter managed to take one on with a lot of difficulty (and without purge), but still beat it. Arthur used to be weaker than Hendy.
I'm thinking at this point, Arthur might be nearing the 3000s in terms of power level, under the previous Sins but still really strong.

we also see the regeneration always be immediate, Elizabeth arrived on the scene and Ban is still in nowheres ville, plus it would make sense for him and elaine to be at the boars hat yet they arent

Well that purgatory voice literally said one way to get rid of the commandments is to die, so yeah he is free of them now. Charity explains how Estarossa was able to overpower our little hero so easily. I have a vague idea about what Piety is, but no clue about who commands it tbh.
Last panel is pure badass hype. 7DS is becoming my most fun weekly read.

depends what time it is, if its exactly noon then every hour they stall escanor he gets weaker and weaker so i think itll just end up stalling out his transformation which gives Meliodas time to escape purgatory

he literally saids he died on purpose to clear out the commandments, and the demon king agreed with that
im guessing they tried to completely kill the demon king but couldnt, he shackled his soul somehow to Meliodas which is why there together in Purgatory, he also somehow cursed Meliodas with being unable to die as his lifeline to the real world, hes trying now to completely devour Meliodas so he can get enough power to return himself to life
that could be why Meliodas has tried to die before and why the Godess clan wanted Ban to kill him, if they truly and complety kill Meliodas he takes the Demon king to hell with him

Meliodas only counteres "ability" attackes, the first knight had the ability to fire off a "wind slash"
Meliodas and Estarossas ability are complete opposite, Meliodas counters magic he counters physical
so Estarossa cant do anything if Escanor throws a sun at him, and like Meliodas his ability is much less effective if your opponent mixes in feints

While I liked the chapter, I think the process of Escanor easily wrecking someone to the verge of death, but they surviving and regenerating and being just fine is getting boring. We have seen this a thousand times in every shonen since DBZ too.
Escanor just chopped Garan in half in his first hit, who then regen'd. He almost killed the giant and the faerie in one attack, but both survived and healed up. Now also Estarossa's face meets a sun and then regens as well. Same old same old. Would have been cooler if Estarossa just got KO'd or killed for good tbh.

I feel the same, Meliodas could take the night shift, Escanor the day one, and everybody would be okay, but even with those powers, this is my favorite Manga right now, I just read all the Manga in few days.

i think having infinite mana just means her spell can cover a massive area with massive duration and doesnt really mean she has massive power as well

she was helpless agaisnt Garan and hes one of the weaker commandments, she just has massive advantage over egg guy since egg guy is actually incapable of fighting himself since he has no actual strength and relys on his spawns/commandment to win battles

considering he was still messing around with elizabeth and hawk i dont think it was possessed
the demon king mentioned eating his emotions so maybe hes eating the more lighthearted parts of him every time he dies so he just gets more and more sadistic

I agree, Nanatsu no Taizai's quality overall is really above average for a weekly. The chapters feel satisfying even if it's all talk and no action.

With all these series I have a hard time remembering....was there a conversation that covered their motivations before? This seems out of left field to me atm and kinda a very convenient way to power up a couple of the sins who had been left behind by the power curve.

Can we all agree that chapter 164 is just the best ? Good lord, this if my first time reading this manga and i can't stop re-reading this chapter.
(Aka the fight between Melo/ban and the two demon in the ten commandment festival, while arguing about wether elaine or elizabeth is the perfect girl)

Welp, this is deserving of a spot in the new big 3. Latest chapter was fucking great, as was the last two. Gowther is such a deep, amazing character.
We're now only missing Merlin in terms of Sins' backstories.
