Didn't see a thread, so here we go.
Tonight marks the premiere of Marvel's TV show, in universe with the Avengers series of movies. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. follows fan-favorite character Phil Coulson and a team of agents from the afore-mentioned organization as they track down superheroes and supervillains across the Marvel universe.
This looks to be a pretty big undertaking from Marvel Studios, as they prepare to not only have nearly a dozen movies in continuity, but also a TV show. The standards of the show will be measured up to Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, and the Avengers, so there's a lot riding on the line, but if they can make this work, it's going to kick all sorts of ass.
It also heralds (at least in part) the return of Joss Whedon to the small screen, which means it's going to get cancelled next month.

Yeah this is going to be awesome (I hope). First time since Castle aired that I have been excited for a show (huge Nathan Fillion fan).

I'm going to watch but my gut feeling tells me it's going to be terrible.

Holy shit, didn't know that they would start this soon. A shame I can't see it "live". This is probably one of the few shows that I will feel bad about not paying to see.

Oooh, I've been seeing ads for this and wasn't sure if it was going to be any good. I didn't know that it was being made by Joss Whedon. I'll have to remember to check it out!

Haven't heard of this, but I hope it's good and gets lots of seasons. Will wait for netflix release in 2015.

That's hopeful. Probably 2024 for S1, S2-5 will get put up for a week before they pull them off completely due to copyright claims.

Joss Whedon makes some kick ass TV shows. Anyone a Buffy fan? But I'll be watching, hopefully it doesn't disappoint.

Yeah I really enjoyed Buffy, Angel, Firefly shows good stuff. Have high expectations for this one hope it's good.
Edit: Ohh now I hear Bear McCreary (BSG, Walking Dead composer) is working on this show...definitely watching now.

Any Marvel hero could conceivably be in SHIELD, right?
Oh God I just realised the F4 are Marvel as well...

I really hope this show surprises me and is worthwhile. I will watch it just in case.

SHIELD is basically the organization of normal humans in the comics that keeps the Superhero and Alien characters in check. A couple heroes have been part of the organization (Captain, notably) and Tony Stark was the director for a while when Nick Fury was dead.
The show is going to focus on normal agents learning about superheroes and villains, but they've mentioned the possibility of having movie-characters guest from time to time.
The film/show rights for Fantastic Four are still owned by Fox, I think, so while technically they're Marvel heroes, Marvel Studios has no ability to use them. Same with Sony and Spiderman if I'm not mistaken.

Oh, that explains why Spider Man didn't even have a minor appearance in The Avengers.
Sorry for being ignorant about the franchise, my only source is "Earth's Mightiest Heroes".

Yeah it's all kinda fucky. Before Marvel Studios was their own thing, they sold rights to movies and now those companies are holding on to them to make money. It'd be great if they all just went back to Marvel so we could have one big Marvelverse.

To be honest, I'm really glad F4 are out of the picture for now.
The recent Avengers movie was pretty awesome and F4 are absolutely lame.

That was actually quite good! Tight writing, Coulson is awesome, nice to see Colbie Smulders and I was super happy to see Ron Glass, hopefully he'll come around more.
