Also was watching the trailer again and do you guys think that hand on R2D2 is Kylo Ren or is that Luke?

I'm scared that Han is gonna die. There are so many subtle hints pointing towards it, and it's gonna suck even if I see it coming from a mile away. But then again, maybe he doesn't die and all that's a red herring for something else.

That was epic though. And the start of a great story !
+ Show Spoiler + Man, I hate that all those great stories (Yuuzhan Vong invasion, Thrawn, etc) aren't considered cannon anymore... :-(

I don't know, I'm not entirely convinced... yet. I mean the images were pretty and all, but I found it kinda dark (darker than what I expected for sure). I'm just hoping JJ Abrams won't pull a Star Trek with Star Wars (making good action movies with great images/effects, but without the "atmosphere" or "feel" of the original series).

Add on top of that that Disney's making the movies... I'm really fearing some deep shit.
I'm a big time fan of the cannon universe which was written, see it completely erase in one blink of an eye like that pained me beyond words. Grew up with those stories...

There is no cannon anymore afaik. Disney is deciding what is cannon and what is not. And that stinks.

Same here. I must have read like 50 of those 400 pages books. There were some really bad ones, but there were real gems as well (especially the Thrawn Trilogy). Disney shouldn't have cut it all out, I'm sure they could have salvaged stuff. Or even used them for scripts, could you imagine movies based on the X-Wing series or with Thrawn ? Man, so much wasted potential...
But I'm doing my best to not have a negative bias towards the new movies. I'll try and judge them for what they're worth, and not compare them to what I think they should have been.

what is going on. There is no cannon anymore afaik. Disney is deciding what is cannon and what is not. And that stinks. Disney said that outside of the 6 movies, nothing that was made before they bought the Star Wars franchise isconsidered cannon anymore. The cannon now is only the 6 movies + everything that they produced since Disney bought SW (SW: Rebels TV show, there were some comics too, obviously the upcoming movies, etc).
So yeah, you can now forget all of what you knew about the universe. Dark Revan and the KOTOR Era ? Gone. The Yuuzhan Vong ? Never existed. Thrawn ? Just a dream. Jaina and Jacen ? Pffft. The adventures of Rogue and Wraith squadron ? Nope. And the list goes on.

the trailer is pretty underwhelming for me :S
somehow it gives me a 'generic' feeling of it. ye, some people mentioning JJ Abram might do the same like he did for Startrek. I have a bad feeling about SW7 now.

Yeah this feels like an incredibly underwhelming trailer, a trailer more in the style of SWTOR would be cooler.

I kinda agree, but to be honest, I prefer this 10 000 000x to a trailer that reveals all the plot and stuff. I feel like their objective was to really keep the scenario as hidden as possible. I'm sick of the trailers revealing the whole plot in less than 3min. It's frustrating because we obviously want to see more of it, but I prefer this way to go.

Harrison Ford gives me the chills every time.

I really hope this movie is better then Episodes I > III, and close, or equals, to the quality of Episodes IV > VI.
As far as canon goes, the Disney version is pretty much equal to the G-canon if I reference the Holocron, and that was set before Disney bought Lucasfilm: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_canon

This is my fear as well. I hope it doesn't go that way. The trailer may be darker than the tone of the movie itself. With the end of Return of the Jedi, the movie ends on a high that the Empire is defeated and the galaxy will move forward. The trailer needs to undo that and show that time has passed, things are still hard and the galaxy isn’t policed by Jedi who help everyone. That the empire still has power and is rising again. But that doesn’t mean that the entire movie will be dark and scary.
Look at the trailers for Age of Ultron for reference. They were a lot darker than the movie we watched, but convinced us all that there was an opponent that would challenge the Avengers.
Also, every excited for whatever lore they create for the evil force user guy. I hope they get away from the Sith and just him be a bad dude to learned to use the force for bad things on his own. It makes him both terrifying, but not unstoppable for a hero that picks up a lights saber to challenge him.

Ok what is better: IMAX 3D or non-IMAX but no 3d shenanigans? :/

Just watched that trailer with the volume muted. The color palette and CGI gives me an incredible prequel vibe, I hope that's not borne out. I guess the prequels did look gorgeous...some of the time. The poster gives me super KoToR vibes though, so there's hope.
Also, that poor African American actor really does seem to be out of breath or scared in every single trailer. Can't catch a break.
