I think Dark Knight Rises has a similar structure (big bad introduces himself, big catastrophe begins the second act, Batman shows up and all is saved) but there's definitely differences, and although I think Dark Knight is much better movie, Rises evoked different emotions and reactions from me, and the subplots are completely different. Or take the PT. The first is an action movie on top of a political thriller where you as the audience know 70% of what's going on, and maybe 10-20% is revealed over the course of the movie. The second plays out more like a mystery, where you start out guessing at what's going on and slowly learn the actions of Fett/Dooku/Kaminoans alongside Obi-Wan and Anakin. And the third is full of dramatic irony, where everything is given to you and the suspense is waiting for the characters to confront each other at the end. Same director, completely different movies. But I agree with you 100% that it does make the OT movies more distinct from each other and that's a very good thing. I guess what I'm really worried about is, how much is going on between Abrams/Kasdan and Johnson? Like Lucas is the ultimate creative director in the end, but the big things storywise, at least the way they look now, are going to be handled by two separate groups of people. | ||

Deathstar 3.0? Also interesting that Luke isn't on there. Instead we get that weird little alien in the middle. Edit: + Show Spoiler + So apparently it is called the Starkiller base, and is "An ice planet converted into a stronghold of the First Order and armed with a fiercely destructive new weapon capable of destroying entire star systems." Also certainly the same ice world we see all the First Order army shots. | ||

So eventually it'll just be a galaxy sized Voltorb and just self destruct ending all life as we know it. | ||

I wonder... + Show Spoiler + With that smiley face are you implying that Luke is in fact the sith in the picture? He has a black robe top similar to the one we see Luke wearing in the first trailer, and his black glove could be covering his prosthetic hand. | ||

It's also possible that the opposite is the case and that showing Luke on the poster right now, in whatever state he is in, would be too much of a spoiler. I also find it interesting that all of our legacy characters are small, in the middle, while our new unknown characters are large, along the top. This suggests to me that Luke is not in fact Kylo Ren. | ||
