The only thing that worries me is how "cartoony" some of the dwarves look. Not bad really, but just out of place for the LotR universe that was build up in Trilogy movies. I think they would have done better to go with a more traditional look that Thorin has. The huge noses and weird haircuts are a tad weird I think.

In the book, where you don't need to identify the dwarves by their appearance, I still couldn't tell who was who, so I don't think it really matters either way.

You can't milk Lord of the Rings, or even The Hobbit (I include the hobbit when I think of LOTR). It's the book(s) that keeps on giving. Almost all of the lore you guys think is new and innovative in these video games and movies now-a-days is just a rip off of Tolkien. So, don't even! Ahem? Eternal Darkness had a beautiful unique and scary storyline that took nothing from Tolkien

I enjoy the hobbit more than lotr because of how well it works as a self-contained adventure story. Bilbo is thrust into a strange situation and only reluctantly decides to go on the adventure, encounters a lot more than he bargained for with the many trials and tribulations, but ends up being the unlikely hero who defeats the big bad guy smaug, saves the day for everyone, and wins his golden treasure. Having plotlines relating to things like thorin's father thrain are just unnecessary padding and take away from the actual story. Sometimes it's better not to show/know everything and leave some mystery up to the viewers/readers imagination. Thrain is mentioned in the Hobbit anyways though so having some background on who he is and how he got locked in Dol Goldur isn't too far removed from the story itself. I do hope the plot with Gandalf and the White council doesn't overshadow Bilbo though.

Well I think they feel the need to have some sexy men like Legolas. So I suspect they're going the eye candy route with Fili and Kili. Thorin was actually the oldest of the dwarves originally, but they seem to be making him younger, which does give a different character arc. But they did the same thing with Frodo in LotR's- he was 50 in the books and the eldest of the dwarves. Making him younger gives a different spin on it semi- coming of age story if you will. Most of the others are pretty normal with the exception of some really zany ones like the tri-corner hairdo and the Axe in the Head.
