Was that the mid-season finale? Or do we have another episode to set up for the other half?

Because this wrapped up the whole Mike doing dumb shit and Alex drama quite neatly, but didn't build towards anything except stupid relationship drama, which *nobody* cares about.

There are two episodes left before the hiatus, giving us 10 episodes in Season 7 so far. I assume that after hiatus will be 6 more episodes, since there are typically 16 episodes total in a Suits season.

Louis is wounded way too easily these days and is in a crazy slump. The show needs to pump him back up so that people get Litt up again.

i think there's a lot of rather silly drama stemming from people just being really bad at communicating, then getting all worked up, then they both apologize/feel bad and make up. then rinse and repeat. everyone seems like an emotional toddler. only gretchen seems to be immune to it.

yeah ive felt the same way about the miscommunication issues. the show tries to portray the characters as mature and supportive by showing the characters can admit their faults and apologise when needed, but the reasons they have to be in those situations in the first place is because theyre stupid as fk and not at all emotionally stable.
it irks me a lot tbh

That's because 99 of the average American audience watching Suits are also stupid as fk and able to relate to the bullshit drama as it is in their daily lives.

Agreed. I thought for a second that there would be an interesting Louis/ Brian case similar to Harvey/ Mike, but the mentorship seemed to happen for only a second when Brian's anger flared up. Very cute ending though, especially since we all know how badly Louis wants to be a father.

Being able to relate to stupid drama doesn't mean you're "stupid as fk" and has nothing to do with being a feminist. Ironically, two of the characters who most objectify women and would probably be seen as least feminist- Harvey with his suave, alpha male, fuck-and-forget personality and Louis with his multiple sexual harassment lawsuits- are also two of the characters most likely to miscommunicate, not care, and cause unnecessary drama.

Donna just had to know... I feel bad for Paula and how she'll get mixed up in this.

Just to make this tangentially political, I want to say Jessica:Harvey/Louis::Obama:Trump.

Jessica tolerated a lot of bad behavior and deserves to have her name tarnished in retrospect, but Harvey and Louis are doing a lot of clownish things in their transition and people tried to haunt and dislodge them with their past sins.

Promoting Donna was always a terrible idea, especially now that she's injecting herself into the office drama and the legal cases. They should have an arc where she goes full Mooch and gets fired after she refers to opposing counsel as a cocksucker in open court.

I like the race stuff, but they don't point out the obvious stereotype of angry black man. The show Power did a really good job of that to point out that making a black guy lose his temper on the record is a classic strategy to make him look dangerous and unhinged, and it works to turn white judges and jurors against him. It's extra good as a contrast that Alex is race neutral as a character.

I agree with you that Harvey and Louis are definitely no Jessica, but I feel like calling them analogous to Trump is a low blow. Harvey and Louis actually worked for their success, and Trump is so much worse than just merely incompetent.

What do you think is going to happen with Harvey/ Donna/ Paula?

well i know how this series is going to end, and thats with harvey and donna being together so...
im going to assume harvey comes clean about the kiss to paula -> paula will ask whether it meant something to him and harvey will answer with some vague "i dont know" kind of answer and then they break up.

Well, it's just what the show is portraying. They do make reference to the fact that clients are being handled and the firm seems to go into the mid-season break from the brink of fiscal disaster in the first episode to a position that is okay enough in the end that they no longer mention finances. In the meantime, the story arcs of the two named partners include Louis staving off a sexual harassment case and abusing his associates while Harvey dicks around with Donna's promotion, which it is pointed out was clearly not earned by merit or experience and supported by the fact that Donna is still in way over her head.

Donna has become the new Rachel and I fear for her drama in the show, especially since she wields a position of power in the firm. Harvey would be stupid to get into a relationship with her now without asking her to step down, especially since he'll lash out and threaten the relationship when she goes against a decision that he thinks is necessary. But it IS coming up on the conclusion of the show, at least by pattern for the USA Network, so having a Harvey x Donna ending is a nice bow to tie off the entire thing, ending all the long tortured "will they won't they" with a "they did". I'd expect Louis to break up Sheila's wedding and take her for himself as well, just so everyone gets a happy ending.

That definitely sounds like a reasonable sequence of events, and I wouldn't be surprised if the ending of the series is Harvey and Donna living happily ever after, although some of the more recent USA series are a bit darker and have less fairy tale-ish endings, so I'm hoping that not *everything* is tied up in a neat little bow.

I agree with you that Donna's Rachel-esque drama is problematic, especially when coupled with the fact that she's not a lawyer yet has a ton of power at the firm. I was actually really, really looking forward to having Louis prep her with the mock trial, before it got dismissed.

I really hope that Louis and Sheila don't get back together, as neither one of them was seriously ever going to budge on the whole "yes children/ no children" conversation and I feel like it would compromise their values way too much, but I don't know how else Louis could possibly be happy. If Louis finds yet another girl and insta-proposes yet again, I feel like it wouldn't have the same sentimental effect that Sheila or even Tara had.

They did give a short explanation, kind of, in a flashback episode (hint: it was pretty arbitrary):

+ Show Spoiler +
"People that have followed Suits since the beginning are aware of a fairly esoteric running gag: Donna and Harvey employ a can opener into a pre-trial ritual. It’s a silly ritual, but the best part about it is the fact that the audience has no idea why they use a can opener. Suits is obviously not a profoundly deep show, but whatever: It’s kind of neat that Suits has a “thing.”

At least until the “thing” was explained, which completely stole the mystery behind it. So, Donna agrees to come work for Harvey, writes her own signing bonus check, and they both agree that their one night together will never be spoken of again. Donna says, “We’re going to need a new ritual.” Harvey reaches over into the back pocket of the waitress standing nearby, grabs a can opener, and says, “Maybe something to do with a can opener.” Donna responds, “Harvey, that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.”

And that’s it. That’s why they use a can opener. But we never needed to know that. The best thing about the can-opener ritual is that it remained unexplained. That explanation takes most of the fun out of it."

http://uproxx.com/tv/why-usa-networks-suits-should-never-have-revealed-the-origins-of-the-can-opener-ritual/

Even so, the episode does give us at least a hint on the can-opener front. It turns out that the specific utensil was chosen by Harvey as a matter of convenience at the moment when a new ritual became necessary. It could have been a spatula if Harvey and Donna had been sitting closer to the kitchen.

Hi Bourgeois, I see you're a new poster on Team Liquid; first off, welcome Second, I see that you've posted 2 back-to-back political posts in a television show thread. I strongly recommend you post those opinions on political TL threads, like http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/general/383301-us-politics-mega-thread. This thread isn't the place for that kind of conversation; we prefer to keep it to the show Suits. The US Politics Mega-thread would be a pretty good place to post though!

Very true; I wonder if they'll even ever revisit the ritual again.
