No, this is not a joke/trolling thread. We don't need more filler posts asking if it is.

The art style is nice but I can't see myself wasting any more time to actually watch the series. It's got nothing to do with preconceived notions of what things are for boys and what things are for girls (else I wouldn't have watched the episode in the first place), it just wasn't interesting... cliched plot and unamusing dialogue.
Also... Laura Faust must be a really interesting woman. I've never seen much of Powerpuff Girls or Imaginary Friends, but interesting to see that they were created by the same person
That's because the recommended episode is the simplest one out there meant to introduce people to the show and not throw them into something they would not understand.
Personally their choice of starting episode is influenced by favoritism for Fluttershy who has nothing going for her than cuteness and that why you might happen to dislike the episode.
For a better grasp of the complexity of the show you would actually have to sit down and watch other episodes preferably starting with episode one like everyone should. You wouldn't judge the entire 7 seasons of sopranos from episode 7 of one season amirite?

Yup.
Have you even seen the show? Like many children's shows, MLP was written with the intent to be enjoyable by adults as well as children. It's not exactly profound, but it can certainly be entertaining if you give it a chance.

This is starting to remind me of a recent conversation I had about Star Wars vs Star Trek. The consensus was that Star Trek is for dorks (to put it crudely) where as Star Wars is for kids. The Star Trek fans get all.... we'll use the word "excited"... about various female characters, where as Star Wars has a serious dearth of female characters (I'm ignoring the third movie's slave girls for the moment) because 6 or 8 year old boys just don't care about girls. Star Wars was basically Lucas unleashing his inner kid.
So grown men enjoying something intended for kids is nothing unusual when you consider the nostalgia factor for things like Star Wars. This, however, involves girls (which as I just said boys don't care about) and is enjoyed by men who cannot possibly have nostalgia for it... so it's a little more complex. But I highly doubt it's freaking Freudian
Also I saw a post a while back with lawful girly / chaotic girly / lawful boyish, and so on. I thought it was cute

what is it with people that come to this thread to profess how manly they are and how stupid it is to enjoy such a "girly kids show."
people who come to the broodwar forum to say how stupid broodwar is get banned, and i don't see how this is any different. if you think the show is stupid, you're entitled to your opinion, just don't try to force it on us, thanks.

You drew the conclusion that two people were imbalanced based on liking a show. Drawing conclusions requires evidence. Therefore, you said you had evidence that certain individuals were imbalanced.
You didn't say "wrong" in your last statement, but you used "funny" instead. In context, "funny" implies abnormality and deviancy. Wrong is often used in conjunction with these terms, and it's a lot shorter.

Meh, I didn't really like episode 7 either, but the statement "I hated every second of it" pretty much shows some serious bias on your part. What exactly did you "hate" about it? I mean, finding it boring or shallow is one thing, but saying that you "hated every second" just sounds to me like you were completely closed-minded.
Yes, it's for children, but enjoying MLP is much the same as appreciating other good cartoons into adulthood like Tom & Jerry or Hey Arnold. People just have more of an incredulous reaction because it's seen as "girly," and "girly" cartoons in the past have all been pretty terrible.

Also, if you don't think that it's "wrong" then why is it a "disappointment in humankind" for you? You never directly said it was wrong, but it's not exactly a stretch to infer it from everything you've been saying.

I can't explain exactly why I didn't like the episode, I simply didn't just like I don't enjoy any kids shows. Simple as that, it doesn't appeal to me. Racing games don't work for me either. There's just no attraction.
If you wanted a few points for "the bad", I'd say the dialogue is cheesy, the story is shallow and boring. Doesn't mean it's bad, it means it IS for little girls.
The good: Drawings are nice.

God you make my blood boil.... It makes me ANGRY when people like things I think they shouldn't like. We put a lot of people in jail for "liking" things they shouldn't like. =) Oh, and I have done that, and it made the date awesome. What now? Provided you're not outright lying about this highly implausible scenario, the both of you seem to be highly imbalanced people. God you make my blood boil.... I am ashamed to have written a criticizing post with such proximity to your criticizing trolling post. And for the record, my previous girlfriends would have all been amused by the prospect of my enjoying the show (if I had enjoyed it) and would have been happy to discuss it. Given that my gf has a bit of a background in psychology, she might be amused be she would be very concerned for my mental health Don't need to be Freud to see that there's something funny going on with people who enjoy shallow stories filled with cute female-animals. I'm pretty sure it's not against the law to like anything. Except in fiction, where it's possible to punish thoughtcrime. But yeah, I agree, enjoying a show about ponies is undeniable evidence of an imbalanced individual. Oh wait. Anyway, you go ahead and keep thinking that it's wrong to like things you don't like, and the rest of us will keep watching ponies <3 1- I never said it was illegal 2- I never said it was undeniable evidence 3- I didn't say it was "wrong" You must think arguing is easy when you don't even have to address the points made by the other person in favor of just inventing stuff like you do. It's called strawman arguments. You said we put people in jail for liking things they're not supposed to. That would mean it's illegal to like certain things. Therefore, you said it was illegal. Well no. Do you have a Ph. D. in philosophy? Such solid logic! Also, if you don't think that it's "wrong" then why is it a "disappointment in humankind" for you? Well maybe I pushed that one too far. It blows my mind though, especially now that I've suffered through one episode. There's enough stuff in the world to entertain yourselves, I don't know why that would be it.

Nice Star Wars / Star Trek pictures =D
Also, to make yet another random reference (less likely to be picked up on though)... this is reminding me of Harry Dresden finding out that she's more of a Trekkie than a Star Wars fan, and she makes the point that this is the year 2011, both breeds of geek can get along!

Comon guys. Why can't we handle this debate Pinkie Pie Style! Let's just throw him a party.
Normally I would have used my Android phone app to have the actual soundbyte of Pinkie saying "Pinkie Pie Style" so you'll have to use your imagination for the full effect.

Djzaps, I don't like or watch MLP, but I bet any show or entertainment you find (even if I like it too) I could pick apart and make it "weird" for you to be watching it as well.

I think people who watch Dexter are messed up. But that's just because the show is about a serial murdering detective. I guess MLP is messed up because it's about talking ponies and morality.

So basically you were closeminded towards the episode then, finding no premise to dislike the episode before you even watched it, but still managing to poison your mind hitherto watching the episode because it's a "kid's show".

You can say that about a lot of shows and movies.
