Every time I think about this episode I have a fangasm. I'm gonna need at least a few more days before I can sort out my thoughts.
But in summary, AMAZING.
I think it did a lot of things well that I'll try an explain without foaming at the mouth.

The first thing I want to adress is the AJ character development. This episode wasn't about giving her face time, but it developed on her character greatly. I never really got an explicit sense of pride from her. She's been down to earth and family-oriented, but the personal pride and honor that she shows really intrigued me. It wasn't to the point of a character flaw in itself, but when bolstered by her surrounding in Ponyville and the expectations, they were really able to make a good episode out of it. It is an interesting type of egoism though, because its more about what she thinks about how others' think about her, instead of her just thinking about herself. Rainbowdash is more commonly seen as the figure who is prideful by virtue of her own ability, but applejack is focusing on her ability for the sake of others' belief in her ability. This is absolutely fascinating.

As a side-note, I don't actually think they wrote it explicitly to show this, but its something that happens with good writing. In a well written plot that has character development and is educated about the human condition, you start with a base idea and the character literally comes a live. Once this episode was fully completed AJ was truly created, the planning and method was intricate enough to allow for the viewer to make intuitive constructs out of the character. Being social animals (usually) allows us all to pick up on the same subtleties and simply exist in the story and probably weren’t even intentionally made, but this type of happy accident requires absolute mastery and understanding of character writing.

The second thing is the group dynamic (I am stating these in order of importance for me). I like the AJ development the best because it was a much needed episode to flesh out her individuality, so this feature takes a close second. Every pony was fairly portrayed in this episode with respect to their character. As a pinkie pie fan (PPBP!) I was absolutely flustered/amazed/Idon'thavethewordforit by the amount of amazing she was given and I could honestly write pages about how much her role in this episode and the last one means to me, so FUCK YEA! Fluttershy had a few key parts that were amazing, and I especially liked the interaction WITHIN the group. Most of the time when they have a group episode it is the mane 6 taking on a problem or a pony within the mane 6 addresses the group. This episode had a very key difference. I think this is where the lack of AJ time in an AJ episode was brilliantly done. Each of the mane 6 was targeted for very specific actions, it fels like this entire episode was done as if it was a bunch of friends sitting around a table and talking. It had the same feel as a social devlopment between friends. The setting and context was extremely interesting, which helped, but the most important thing for me was that everypony talked to everypony else.

I'm probably going to write something about my vview on Pinkie Pie within the next few weeks, but it will be less analytic and more personal ala my Christmas post.

Third is Derpy. Everyone knows why. It isn't about a good character creation or good dialogue, frankly if she just ran into a wall for 3 seconds we would have all freaked out just as much. The point is that the writers have now established a communicative line with the brony fandom. Isn't that just fucking awesome? Yay~~~~~~

Well that's all I can come up with at the moment. When I have time to think about it more I'll be a bit more in depth, but yes. THIS SHOW IS SO GOOD AND I JUST CAN'T HANDLE IT ER34IKGJNHOAWER8INGIOUW4TGOIWN4OIHYO4IJYHO4IJY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess the only thing I didn't like was how they went back to the western theme. Having a new theme would've been cooler. So its less of a con and mroe of a neutral in that respect.

By far the most well written episode to me.

As for which season is better I'm just gonna say that neither is better than the other. They do entirely different things. And they do what they should with equal amounts of skill.

Season 1 because of the GREAT episodes and they didn't make the best pony seems like a meanie. Season 2 seemed pretyt good overall, but didn't have such strong episodes as Sonic Rainboom, Cutie Mark Chronicles or Winter Wrap Up. Best season 2 episode is Last Roundup, although the season opener and finale were quite epic, I prefer the usual type of episodes.

Season 2 was more consistent in terms of quality than season 1, and both of its two parters are incredible. Season 2 also had superior animation, a greater attention to detail, and more continuity. That being said, season 1 had higher highs and lower lows than the second. Nothing has threatened to top Cutie Mark Chronicles so far.

It's very hard to not look at season 1 with the nostalgia goggles, as many of us were introduced to MLP when that was pretty much the only content we had, and was all we had over a long summer waiting for the second season. I'd rank them at about even in spite of that. I prefer season 1's episode style in many cases to season 2's.

As for favourite season 2 episode, I honestly think that Return of Harmony part 1 is mine. I'll never forget how I was in constant chills when I watched it the first time, and rewatching it after having developed a much greater level of empathy for the characters makes it that much better when we see each of them getting broken like that. Having brohoofed John de Lancie in person may also slightly influence my opinion on the matter, though.

#TLPonies IRC News Bulletin

Due to the recent attacks on our server, a few changes have been and will be made. First and foremost, motbob, Cane, and myself have all been given master status for the channel. This means we now have complete power to better deal with trolls.

I will be doing away with the autovoice script, and ops will no longer voice users manually. Instead, anybody wishing to be voiced must register and authenticate with Q on quakenet. To do so, simply follow the directions here.

Once you have registered and authed, please send me a query in IRC and I will tell Q who you are. From then on, every time you log in and auth, Q will voice you automatically.

This serves a couple of purposes. Foremost, it makes moderation much, much easier if trolls attack again. An op can easily just mute the chat and forget it until the attack subsides. Secondly, if we have to resort to extreme measures, the IRC can be termporarily, or even permanently, made private, so only recognized users can even connect to it (this obviously last resort stuff and won't be implemented lightly).

[Edit] It is important to note that you have to individually auth each and every time you log into the channel in order for your flags to work, so keep your password handy. Personally, my auth message along with the password is bound to one of my keyboard's macro keys.

That about covers it, I think.

Unfair question GM. Clearly impossible to answer. IMHO Season 2 was overall better than Season 1, while I believe the majority of my favorite episodes fall in Season 1. It's so hard to say because I've also watched all of the S1 episodes significantly more times. Quality wise I'd go for S2 but as S1 got me into the show, my heart lies with it. So, as far as 'Better' I'd say S2, as far as 'Favorite' I'd probably go with S1.

Edit: Read the question more clearly and noticed it said 'of season 2' In that case I'd say the wedding 2 parter.

Okay so if you're using mIRC you don't actually need to manually auth each time. In mIRC go to
File -> Select Server (which opens mIRC options) -> Connect -> Options -> Perform

the meltingcake after the /auth is just my username, put yours there.

make sure you tick "enable perform on connect"
and in the box add /auth *username* *password*

from there you can just restart mIRC and it should automatically auth you when you connect.

...so I'm bad and don't know how to resize images...
