I just looked into this. She didn't actually get a C&D, but she did get a warning. Someone basically turned her in, and Hasbro/dA (not sure exactly how the system works) gave her a warning. She was basically told to remove her sales page and not to advertise her ponies any more, but as a result of the drama (especially on Ponychan) she's killed her entire dA's front page. I think she's trying to sort everything out, although her dA notice (that of "I am done, I can't take this any more") is a bit worrying. Hopefully she'll be able to sort things out and come back to some extent.
Here's the thread on Ponychan (she responded to it a couple of times), and where I got most of my information.
This is one of those gray areas where she - indeed everyone who's made money off of merchandise like this - are technically breaking the law, but nobody cares because it's not taking money away from the copyright holders (there are no official plushies and no plans to make them). It's dumb, but there it is.
Edit: She changed the title of her journal entry from "I am done" to the default, and she edited the post to say she's leaving on vacation Saturday. I think she needs it.

People on Reddit are commenting that it seems more like they're doing it out of spite than anything.
We can't make any money off of show accurate plushies, so neither can you.

Ok, short story time. I'm 27 and apart from my guitar I've never had any artistic aspirations. One evening I had a few drinks with my gf at home while watching a few episodes of MLP. Now, my gf is really REALLY good at drawing, we started talking about it a bit, I asked her to draw a pony and she said no, why don't you try. I can really say I always thought about myself as someone who can't even draw a straight line, but the ponies beckon, and something clicked. I repeat, I'm 27 and haven't drawn anything in my life before so go easy on me. Without further ado, here's Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy and Sweetie Belle.

The issue with the plushies is not a copyright issue, but a trademark issue, which is unfortunately bad for both ends. If it is reported that someone is making money on something inspired by a trademark you own and you do not take action, you can lose your rights to it. So basically if Hasbro turned a blind eye to this they could lose their rights to the My Little Pony franchise. I am pretty sure copyright deals with things actually produced by a company. For example, selling episodes of the show you pirated, selling exact copies of toys, etc, fan art is different.
