No, this is not a joke/trolling thread. We don't need more filler posts asking if it is.

I do agree ep 7 probably got the majority vote solely because of Fluttershy, but even though I think there are better ones, I don't think it's necessarily a bad introduction.
I might just be a bit pessimistic, but if someone hates ep 7 I doubt the show is for them or that they would change their mind after a different episode. After all, a good show shouldn't require the absolute best episode to drag someone in. Not every good show is about cartoon ponies though, so it might not apply here, but still. Still, its 22 minutes of Fluttershy being unreasonably scared and dragging anypony watching down into the land of contempt for her scaredness. The plot is even simpler than the pilot episodes. Chances are if someone behaved that way in real life i would debate between abandoning them to their own devices or stubbornly tie them up, dragging them along (like Applejack does with Fluttershy). It stands to reason that the majority of the audience would not like the episode very much if this was their first episode of the show. I guess, but like I said everyone has different opinions, and while I wouldn't consider ep 13 that good of a starting episode myself, you might disagree with my picks as well. Ep 4 I can't disagree with though, my only problem is that it focuses so strongly on a single character, but yeah, not a bad pick. Better than 7 at least, I'd say.

You're all nuts... I don't get it seriously, its a kids show, about ponies, who are all little girls and annoying... And the story? The story is UNBELIEVABLY cheesy and stereotypical for a kids show... There is nothing to like for someone aged 13+ So why do you people like it? :s sorry........i guess. Either you guys are all trolling, and its just a meme... Or...? + Show Spoiler +And yes I read the warning I'm not convinced I don't know man, I'm not really fond of the "introductory episodes" thingy, I think you should just have started with Episode 1, you don't know the characters, that doesn't help at all, but still I don't think you should say things like "There is nothing to like for someone aged 13+" when it's obvious there is, that is just being aggressive, not to mention pointless EDIT = And your question has already been answered if you had read the OP I did read the OP. It basically says "this show is brilliant, don't believe me? It has a cult following." ... The impression I get is, 4chan said MLP is cool (but were trolling), people believed them, start watching it to fit in with other anons, essentially trolling themselves. + Show Spoiler + Edit: And im gonna stop posting here.. pointless argument tbh You guys watch MLP, i'll watch Breaking Bad, Dexter, True Blood. sorted!
It indeed was like that. 4chan tried to troll people, but didn't realize people would actually enjoy it, and now it is what it is now. Good luck with your blood/serial killer series, I prefer to be happy and smile at cute series rather than cry and get horrified at gore series. Also, IMO, the only way for someone to actually enjoy it correctly is to watch from 1 to 7 straight up, and with an open mind. Someone who goes 'this show is horrible and I'll watch it to prove my point' won't like it ever. And I do believe 1/2 are good introductory episodes. That works, as long as they're willing to watch them. Many might just stop after the first or second episode. But it's true that some people just watch it to be able to say it's bad. Not much anyone can do about that.

Wow, that is a good pony creator.
+ Show Spoiler +![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/x0xn5.png) Young Dawn. Also wants to be in the Wonderbolts. Can't do the sonic rainboom (obviously), so it's probably more of a fantasy than a plausibility. (Though, unbeknownst to her, she can create a crimson cloud behind her when reaching top speeds, like the Wonderbolt's storm clouds, minus the lightening. Has to train a lot harder to before she'll ever get close.) Friend to nature. Teases friends. They tease back, especially about the "young" bit in her name. What were her parents thinking?

The debate about which starter episode is best is never going to be settled guys, since many people disagree about it, when I had 1 and 2 up there, people raved about how awful that choice was, and I got a generally negative response from watchers, with dragonshy people responded much more positively. Art of the dress and winter wrap up are both out of the question as starter episodes, since they start with musical numbers, which to a new watcher will seem incredibly cheesy. Any episode without all six of the mane six appearing is also a poor introduction. Can't use episodes that depend on the emotional payoff of already knowing the ponies involved (Party of one, sonic rainboom, #9) since those will have no value to someone who doesn't know that pinkie is usually happy or rainbow usually confident. The fact is, there aren't *that* many episodes that work, and furthermore fluttershy is the most popular pony. That whole episode has an emphasis on cuteness and it *does* make you feel good when you see fluttershy succeed, so its not exactly lacking the "feelgood" element. I really don't see the issue people have with it as a starting episode. Some people just come into this with a closed mind, and you could show them the whole series, and they *still* wouldn't get it, either because they just don't want to, or because they are temperamentally unsuited for it. And that's fine, we are going to love and tolerate the shit out of those people, because its what we do.

I have a friend that admits that it is a show that he would enjoy watching, but he doesn't want to get into it. It's no big deal if someone likes or doesn't like the show, we're all awesome inside! + Show Spoiler +

I tried making a totally new and original pony ...

... but it was a Fluttershy <3. I wish I had my very own Fluttershy. :D

I just edited my last post with more ponies, I can't stop!

If I were to do a custom pony, it'd just be a another Applejack. Prolly minus the actual apples though, cause they just stick out too much to me.

The ponies are unstoppable. They have invaded Blizzard, Top Gear, almost every webcomic and forum that exists. Equestria Daily hit 30,000,000 pageviews 2 days ago. It is now at 30,670,000. They have defeated 4chan 3 times. Ponies are unstoppable, and I love it.

I watched the first three episodes because of this thread and also because all of these memes floating around the internet, so i got curious. The art (eg. big shiny eyes), ponies, the pony names,... it is quite interesting and enjoyable if you overcome those superficial things.
I am quite interested if you guys can openly talk about MLP with your friends irl & inet. It just feels so awkward.
Also this series is for little girls? i doubt that little girls will get most of the jokes

Care to elaborate on the 4chan thing? I didn't know about that, and I just read that twice today, but no explanation.
Defeating 4chan in itself is a very hard thing to do, but three times?

Yeah, "The Fox and the Hound" is for little kids, yet I have (grown up) friend that cry watching it. Shrek is supposed to be for little kids, yet adults enjoy it the most.
etc...

30,000,000 pageviews, not 300,000,000. EqD gets about 200-250k pageviews a day.
Have you seen what it did to the Escapist? Ponies have been showing up everywhere.

Look, unless you actually like ponies and pink and cute stuff for little girls, not that there's anything wrong with that (or you're trying really hard to fit in with the rest of the following), you won't like/appreciate the show unless you watch more than one episode. That's what I firmly believe. And you should always start at episode 1.

Say "20% cooler". If no one reacts, nothing comes of it. Anyone else that watches MLP will know you do too.
Edit: Obligatory pony creation. + Show Spoiler +

Choice of starting episode is always difficult. There's only so fast a new viewer can learn who seven characters are. (Most movies have a smaller primary cast, and movies are much longer than one episode.) The first four episodes are the most natural introduction, but a lot of people aren't willing to watch that much material.
Party of One is suggested as the balls-to-the-wall strongest conversion episode, if you can make sure the viewer sees it all the way through. But it always depends on the viewer.

Well, I have now finished the series and can't wait for season 2. There were some jokes I couldn't believe were actually in a kids show. Especially when Pinkie Pie said..
+ Show Spoiler +Looks like the punch has been...spiked!!
I was on the floor. For the first few episodes I had the reaction of "I can't believe I'm watching this" but it took a few episodes before it settled in and I started to like the characters. To be honest, I didn't like any of the voices for a few episodes, then they grew on me and I really like them now. I used to cringe through the opening song, now I don't.
The show is a really solid cartoon with good writing and good characters. What keeps me coming back is the art style, there are some things where the style just has "that" quality to it which really connects with you and you want to see more. I can't explain but I've had a similar experience before, especially with video games (any longtime gamer knows what I'm talking about).
Anyway, thanks for introducing me to the show! I'd seen all the image macros and the style of the characters always intrigued me, but it wasn't until this thread that I actually started to watch it.
