Sigh.... the crux of this debate was that you were saying that your way of having hired guns attack Cartel leaders is better than having them all poisoned... The point is that Gus decided circumvent the Cartel's military force. He arrived as a friendly party and blindsided the shit out of them killing the Don and his capos whilst they didn't have their guards up. Everyone disagreeing with shares the notion that this was a good move on Gus' part as opposed to your contention that Gus should hire imaginary super assassins who would kill all of the top brass simultaneously. Edit: ahh he already got temped =S

Gus took out the entire upper tier of the Cartel hierarchy in an instant. An UB3R 1337 H4X0RZ snipurz will take them out one by one. So say Eladio gets shot. One of his underbosses takes over and then tells the Mexican military that he owns to go kill Gus's "highly trained assassin" that exists only in action movies and your imagination. Then he'll go and shoot Gus himself. In fact, you could probably find a hit man that would kill the president of the United States before you could find one that would attempt to take out a major crime boss. Those guys don't fuck around. And Gus has killed almost everyone that would know Gus did it. In that single instant, Gus took out the entire upper echelon of Eladio's Cartel. The only guys left are at the bottom of the food chain. They'll either go to another Cartel or duke it out between each other for territory. In the end, they won't even remember how the original boss died. No one is going to start a war now because no one is calling the shots and nobody is on anybody's payroll anymore. Think of these Cartels as a governemnt -- because they basically are, except 1000x more violent and vengeful. Imagine what would happen to America if the president, vice president, the speaker of the House, the pro tempore of the Senate, the president's entire executive cabinet, and every four-star General in each branch of the military died in the same instant. You really think we'd be able to pull it together and fight back? Now imagine if Obama got shot. Biden takes over, gets locked in a secret underground bunker, and it becomes a witch hunt for the guy that did it. He's done. The only thing Gus has to worry about now is the possibility of a "five families" type of thing. They might come after Gus, but on the other hand I'm sure they knew it was only a beef between Gus and Eladio and will let the matter go to rest. And in regardless to whether this is actually the first episode you've ever seen. It really doesn't help your case that you kept referring to them making cocaine XD

Should go listen to it if you've seen the episode and have any further questions to why the writers/actors did this or that. Link to the podcast? I hope I can watch it outside of US lol.

And if Isildur threw the ring into Mount Doom at the start of the first movie there would have been no trilogy.

Does he actually become less overly hostile and mean? *+ Show Spoiler + when he started the public fight with his brother-in-law about getting his son drunk as some kind of power exercise" Walter just gets worse and worse actually. Thats kind of the over-arching theme of show and how the changes Walter has made in his life, and who he is can never be reverted. Basically hes an awesome badass.

I don't know if it's the acting, but before his overt descent into madness, Walter already seemed to be on the brink of it. The first few episodes he acts so awkwardly and timid around everyone and even some of his teaching scene display borderline lack of control over himself. I honestly do think that besides his newfound criminal skills he really hasn't changed all that much, despite the show's insistence on 'a good man breaking bad.' I think when we find out (don't know if it already happened, since I'm behind!) why he left Gray Matter it will turn out to be just another incident of his capacity of completely deluding himself he is the victim while being unfair to others.
