However, "Great Bearded Glacier" is a really badass nickname. And didn't someone say something about owning things like titles so they can't be used against you?

you might want to read the full post, especially the "spoiler" part at the end, but here is the most important: THE WINDS OF WINTER is not finished. [...] Nor is it likely to be finished tomorrow, or next week. Yes, there's a lot written. Hundreds of pages. Dozens of chapters. (Those 'no pages done' reports were insane, the usual garbage internet journalism that I have learned to despise). But there's also a lot still left to write. I am months away still... and that's if the writing goes well. (Sometimes it does. Sometimes it doesn't.) Chapters still to write, of course... but also rewriting. I always do a lot of rewriting, sometimes just polishing, sometimes pretty major restructures. [...] I can't tell you when it will be done, or when it will be published. Best guess, based on our previous conversations, is that Bantam (and presumably my British publisher as well) can have the hardcover out within three months of delivery, if their schedules permit. But when delivery will be, I can't say. I am not going to set another deadline for myself to trip over. The deadlines just stress me out.

Given that GRRM has produced lots of other stuff ever since ASoS was such a hit. My assumption is that his time management is weird and he got sidetracked by his other stuff. I've given up on GRRM being on time. The 7 years wait for ADwD was "interesting" to say the least. I highly doubt that I can handle another 7 years wait. While ASOIAF was my first major wait for a book release, I will have move on with other interest then. If there is a book 6, great! If not, there's always non canon HBO. At least the HBO series should have a definitive end point.

He just no longer has that hungry mentality... Rich and fame (and of course old age...) made him lazy and writing isn't really necessary for him anymore... Those year gaps at the beginning and later books tell the story really... I would be surprised if Winds even gets released in 2017.... Thank god he feels the "pressure" from the show catching up to the books because if it weren't for that, I would think at least 2020 for winds... I can't even imagine when a dream of spring will get released...

I can't even imagine when a dream of spring will get released... That's probably a part of it. Also consider the fact that the ASOIAF universe expanded greatly since the first book. It is now a much more delicate exercise to balance plot development across so many threads while maintaining consistency on very little detail.

I wouldn´t be surprised that after the tv series he just lost some of the interest in writing the books.... :/

If the book comes out, great! Just remember that most people will move on to the next bright shiny thing if the wait is too long. In the end, I do accept his reasons for the delays. It is his creation after all.

He has such a simple workmanlike way of writing too, its a shame. Had aFFC and aDWD been one book and cut the 30 brand new POV characters down maybe he could have actually focused on an end game.

Regarding the show, I will probably not watch season 6 until I have read winds of winter. IMHO I felt that season 4 lacked in quality compared to the first 3 seasons and season 5 more or less took a huge steaming dump on what the first 3 seasons and the books was about. I just hope the series don't follow the book from this point onward so it doesn't get spoiled for me.

If he wakes up tomorrow and says to hell with ASOIAF, will I be extremely disappointed? Sure as hell I will. But to presumptuously call him out for not delivering you YOUR BOOK when YOU want it, no matter his current state of mind, passion, health, desire, motivation, or ANYTHING for that matter... is just so arrogant that it makes me sick. If I created ASOIAF, wrote Game when I was 20, and released Clash, Storm, etc. every 8 years until I finished with Dream when I was 76... be happy that I did anything at all for you that you find interesting and pleasurable for Christ's sake. When was the last time you improved the life of GRRM for a change? Think all the mindless complaining and stress and pressure that people are putting on him is helping at all? Fuck off if you are not supporting him and his epic journey and legacy with this series. It's his life's work, and won't touch anything else but 1 in a 1000 of us might do in our lifetimes, so let him tackle his passions in the time and manner that he wants.
