I think sc2holar is one of the few people who can actually distinctly differentiate Book!Stannis and Show!Stannis. I mean, as much as it pains me to say it, Show!Stannis is just down right awful. He really has no redeeming qualities, aside from being a badass fighter and a skilled commander. And even that transpired little in the show as of now. I mean, come on guys, could you imagine Book!Stannis begging Melisandre for sex on a beach? Could you imagine him saying he burned that Florent guy because he was a heretic? Face it, Show!Stannis is absolutely nothing like Book!Stannis. At this point, I doubt the characters will have anything in common anymore. Even if they do "redeem" him when he saves the Wall (and even that I am doubting... It will happen for sure, but I fear it will be belittled to no end), he will still be drastically different than he is in the books, and nowhere near as righteous or cool. Sincerely, A pained Book!Stannis fan

Sincerely, A pained Book!Stannis fan I have to agree with you with fellow countryman, I lost faith in Show!Stannis when he f***ed Melisandre, throwing the honor and virtue that defined the character in the books. I believed the showrunners are aware that no one like Stannis hence Davos' speech in front of the bank of braavos that help remind the audience that Stannis is actually a good guy For the next season Stannis will be on the wall, far from the game of thrones. I think it will help cast a fresh light on the character for the audience. His handling of the wilding problem and the counsel he will provide Jon will set him on the better path for the audience closer to Book!Stannis. I think.

Don't get me wrong, he did it nonetheless. Along with many wretched things. But he's also the one king who cares about the future of the realm, and who acknowledges the threat of the Others. There are many reasons why he might be a terrible king, mostly due to his taking of R'hllor and burning non-believers (more precisely, him allowing Melisandre to do so) as well as godswoods (that is something I still do not forgive him for). But there are also many reasons why he would be a good king. Or at least, a halfway decent king. Many more reasons. Stannis has had great character development. He begins as this bitter man who sees injustice being done to him at every turn, and hates on his brothers... And comes to regret his actions and feel remorse over it. Especially over killing Renly. At least, it's what I got from reading the books. That and the fact that he began by saying he didn't love Robert, but later on he says he does. The reason why Stannis is so interesting in the books is also because he is very paradoxal. He claims he is doing it all for duty, and because the law dictates that he should be king. Yet I refuse to believe he does not wish for it himself. He could have stepped down. Anyway, the debate about him being good or bad is endless. He is grey, and he is an extremely well written character, and that is why I love him! That is, in the books at least. In the show... No thanks.

Okay, first of all, there is no need for name calling. Second, irregardless is not a word. And third, we did not spoil anything at all. I for one merely said the two characters are different, without even extrapolating on how or why Book!Stannis is different. I agree that the discussion didn't belong in the other thread, however I hardly took part in it. And even so, name calling is still widely unnecessary.

Just stop discussing shit in that thread. For everyone of you banned who PMs me: I banned everyone involved in the recent Stannis discussion who also posts in this thread, even if you are not spoiling something with a singular post. You are ruining the thread regardless for the Unsullied, and you are making moderation harder.

Yeah, I chuckled at the "so many lucky bounces going Tywin's way" part. As for the great Stannis debate, I think I've always found him pretty unremarkable as a character. I don't feel he brings brings anything interesting to the story on his own, and without Melisandre carrying his whole arc there would be no reason for it to even exist. I was pretty surprised when he showed up at the Wall. I mean strategically the explanation makes sense, but at the same time it seemed like a "there's no real place in the world for Stannis, so let's just randomly put him somewhere where he can kinda matter" move on GRRM's part. I expect him to be killed off the moment Melisandre ditches him and takes her R'hllor-Jesus agenda elsehwere.
