Those two scenes had elicited such shock because they involved the deaths of characters that had been around for so long and because the likelihood of death at a wedding is much less likely than in a duel. Oberyn is a very likable character, but he's introduced late in the story and doesn't stick around for long so his death isn't too groundbreaking. I dunno about anyone else, but back when I first read through aSoS I had become so paranoid and frustrated after the Red Wedding I was about ready to expect anyone to die honestly. I knew he was a goner the moment he got within range of the Mountain to hack off his head ;; Also, I doubt the Mountain will die in the same scene. He'll probably be given a scene (ha, who am I kidding? It's the Moutain. He's lucky to even be seen this season..) in agonizing pain and then mentioned as being dead sometime later similar to the books. imo, the real "oh shit" moment still to come is Stoneheart. | ||
