We don't know! Yes, Gatiss' role is being kept top-secret, much like Iwan Rheon's role prior to season three. (He was later revealed to be Ramsey Bolton). Source Donal Noye? Mace Tyrell? Hard to put a character to him. Seems a bit light and young to be Mace Tyrell. Donal Noye sounds reasonable. That or Greyjoy uncle is my guess. If the secrecy holds and is not just a brief information lapse then I say Euron Greyjoy. To show watchers that character could stand to be made a surprize. Or maybe someone like the high sparrow if season 4 gets that far? There is nobody whose identity is a secret like Ramsay or (though it was cut) Barristan, so I'm inclined to think of people whose identity and the fact that they become involved as important characters is a plot point. Coldhands? (I think "Coldhands?" might be emerging as code for "no idea".) The high sparrow was my idea as well when I saw his pictures. Coldhands would be the second option in my book. I cannot see him as a Mace Tyrell even though he has a certain jovial cast to him that I could see as the "family thing" they have got going in the series. And who knows, if Arya gets to Braavos he might as well turn out to be the Kindly Man. But coldhands is almost certainly benjen stark, who was cast in S1. Casting someone new would kill that theory dead. There is no reason to keep the high sparrow's identity a secret. Also no reason to keep the kindly man's identity a secret (unless they don't want to spoil for bookreaders that Arya will make it to Braavos in S4). he is most likely not benjen. but it is true that another cast would eliminate him as a potential target, however its already not likely that he is coldhands. Eh, I dunno. There don't seem to be many other likely candidates since the 3-eyed crow is Bloodraven. What other well-known character dies beyond the wall? The Night's King is pretty much the only other option, but just doesn't seem likely at all. Mostly people don't think Coldhands = Benjen because Leaf says Coldhands was killed long ago. Since Leaf is hundreds of years old it seems unlikely that Benjen's death would be long ago to her. Also it seems weird to me that if he is Benjen, why does he not tell Bran? It seems likely that Bran's eventual powers would allow him to figure it out anyway. I'm actually kind of frustrated there are no other theories about coldhands, to me it is an unsolved mystery. Yeah, I know. But who else? Really the Night's King? It just doesn't make sense. It also means Benjen is completely MIA and it seems strange to leave such a loose end. Where is he? He could be just a random wight in the army of the dead, but why wait so long with revealing it, if that's what happened?

i agree that the nights king doesnt make sense, but benjen neither. tho I hope hell turn up somewhere. I guess well just have to wait and be amazed (or dissapointed )

Sad that Jon Snow was killed but i was expecting that. Im mad at the way it happened, without a good fight just like Robbs death. Very few people think he is actually dead. If he is not dead he became something like catelyn or coldhands. Beric didn't change like Cat did, and another popular theory is that he warged into ghost, like the guy in the prologue. Yeah I forgot about that. If he really died he can be on ghost body now, because as I understood from what brynden 3rd eye crow said, wargs can live inside the creature they "warged" after death. Like bran felt other presence inside one crow that he was training in and orell and varamyr passed to their animals too. Thats a nice possibility, personally, I think that this JonWolf is better than another zombie guy in westeros. EDIT: But if GRRM wants him to become a zombie why not be kind of a white walkers leader? that would be insane. I dont think helll go into ghost because it is said at some point that when the warg goes into his animal after death, his soul slowly fades away in said animal. That and the fact that Melisandre spent the entirety of the 5th book telling john snow how she is his only chance / only friend.
In one of the Melisandre chapters she is specifically given a fire-vision of Jon Snow as a man turning into a wolf, and then turning back into a man again.
Seems likely it might be a warg thing, but who knows, GRRM always likes to do unpredictable shit. The whole prophecy is like a half-trained mule thing, too. That seems like a pretty obvious interpretation of the prophecy, but they hardly ever turn out to be completely straightforward.

just finished the second book. I was wondering if the character development gets any better. So far most of the characters seem pretty one-dimensional and don't really seem to change much. Other than that its pretty good so far.

During book 3 I think all the characters become far more fleshed out.

How much do you like or hate Jaime?

The lack of a reveal on Benjen could easily be a matter of no PoV character having made it to where he is, so he couldn't have been revealed. I think it'll be in PoV in the Lands of Always Winter.

He would make a good Kevan Lannister too but so far we've been given every reason to believe that he's been cut. Kinda surprisingly since he ends up Regent to King Tommen.

Guess no one remembers poor Kevan : (

I like spoilers so I looked up what happens on wikipedia. I kind of like what I know Jaime will become. I also kind of like his bad ass response to being interrogated by catelyn.

Oh yeah, the fact that he didn't appear in alot of pivotal scenes he appears in the books threw me off.

Not going to read anything in this thread yet, but I'm about halfway through Game of Thrones right now and I want that cunt Catelyn to die. That is all. I will report back once I've finished.

The one that makes the most sense is that Coldhands=The Night's King. There was recently an extremely sound analysis of it here, which fully fleshes it out in the context of Bran's visions, and probably the only "identity" that currently fits well.
As for Benjen, we all know he's actually Daario.
