Didn't he dispatch the ravens in the book, though?
He did, but in a rush and w/o a message, so empty ravens came back to Castle Black

I believe he did pre-write a bunch of messages for different situations, but in the rush to let the ravens go he didn't give the messages to the ravens.

I kinda like Sam. Sure he is a coward, but he is a kind hearted person. He tries to help everyone he can, even after all he has been shown is cruelty. If any of you had grown up like him would you still be kind and helpful to others? Or would you be bitter and self centred. Okay he is a bit of a weakling, yeah. And I am thoroughly impressed he was one of the survivors, but he is quite a central character to the plot. What really frustrated me was Arya and Sam meeting, and not knowing how closely they were linked through Jon. Infact, the whole Arya chapters frustrate me immensely. I was so angry when she went blind.

Just take the whole Bolton's bastard issue: It's pretty much established that Theon's torturer is the Bolton bastard in the show thread, and they're right, of course. And yes, there are enough hints in the show alone to come to that conclusion. But immediately after people started wondering who that torturer is, people came to that thread and pointed out how Bolton's sigil is a guy on a cross, and how the Bolton's words are something to do with a flayed man, and how the Boltons always liked to torture their vicitms, and so on. Ignoring the issue on whether House Bolton's words were ever mentioned on the show, or that the Bolton sigil is only shown in the background in the show (and never once directly associated with the Boltons), it just takes one guy pointing these things out to convince the genuine show watches of the fact that Theon's torturer is the Bolton bastard. And from that point on show watchers will treat this as fact and tell other show watchers that speculate about the guy's identity. All it takes is one smart post (either from a very clever show watcher, or a book reader with a very small penis) and the show watchers will start to spoil each other. This is what happens with Robb: His death has been predicted so often now - at least in parts by people blatantly spoiling the books - that by now it's the established theory. And now that the show watchers have the theory, they can look at the hints that they otherwise would have overlooked. And all the hints show that the theory appears to be correct, so they continue to speculate on that basis. It doesn't even take blatant spoilers for that kind of result. Book readers know what hints to look at in the show ("Look, that's the Bolton's sigil, right? Looks just like Theon on his cross!"), all they have to do is to point at those hints in the other thread to nudge show watches in the right direction. So, yeah, I think forbidding any kind of speculation (or making people put it into spoilers) would be a good thing.
