Joffrey, he heard Robert say something like it would have been better if Bran died than to live a cripple and then hired an assassin to kill him

Jaime and Cersei discuss the dagger in A Storm of Swords, and they decide it was Joffrey who sent the assassin. It's on pg 823 of the US hardcover edition. I still somewhat doubt their idea, but that's the last time that incident is discussed in the books as far as I know.

Joffrey. Tyrion all but gets a confession from him at some point. In any case, who else would have had access to the king's armory (the king won the dagger from Littlefinger, not Tyrion who never bet against his brother), and would have been stupid / clueless enough to arm a schmuck with an easily recognizable weapon?

All of this discussion on length of seasons is silly talk. HBO will make decisions based on profit, as it rightly should. Profit is a function of revenue minus cost. Longer seasons = higher profits and higher costs. Somewhere, there is a break-even point after which incremental costs eclipse incremental revenue. Trust their accounting team to come up with this data; the directors have little input here and will have to abide by the decision.

And what functions do cost and revenue depend on? The directors' input. This isn't econ1001 where you get given cost and revenue as dependent on quantity to be optimised, instead what we have here is the optimisation of the budget vs quality of the show, which the directors most certainly do have a say in.

Broski, I don't speak from an econ1001 perspective. The first season of any show is more or less an educated gamble. Directors are given a budget (considering the lack of high-profile stars and CGI in AGoT, it was not very big). Based on the performance of the season, the network determines (a) whether to renew, (b) how to set the budget going forward.

And if the show is low quality there will be less profit then if they made it a little longer. Of course the director's input is taken into account, it is silly to think that accountants don't give a shit about the director's/creator's thoughts of how it should go.

Anyway I think I read somewhere that the next season will be 12 episodes(probably on westeros.org, too lazy to look it up)

You do realize that the show in its current form is in fact low quality / low budget, right? The majority of the reason for its excellent performance thus far stems from the high quality of the source material; it's so good that we barely notice the lack of a big budget. The actors are all rising to the occasion, but let's be honest, there is a reason that none got Emmy nominations, and the few that are heads-and-tails above the rest are primarily in breakout roles.

The reason why this show hasn't received any academy award nominations is because it doesn't deserve any. The show itself is merely serviceable.

@ItsMeDomLee

First off, A Game of Thrones cannot be nominated for any Academy Awards since it is a television series and not a major film (plus Oscar nods do not come out for 6 or 7 months). As for Emmy nominations the following have been submitted:

“Game of Thrones” debuted to strong reviews and ratings. Like “Boardwalk Empire,” it was renewed for a second season after only one episode had aired. HBO sent Emmy voters an impressive screner package and has confirmed the following category placements for its two hot new dramas:

“Game of Thrones”
Drama Series
Drama Actor: Sean Bean
Drama Actress: Lena Headey
Drama Supporting Actor: Mark Addy, Peter Dinklage, Nicolaj Coster-Waldau, Aiden Gillen, Kit Harington, Jason Momoa
Drama Supporting Actress: Emilia Clarke, Michelle Fairley

I was reading some forums yesterday and i was kinda shocked about the actress that played Shae. I strongly recommend not doing a google search on her while at work.

Wait, what? It is not that low of a budget for TV. It cost about the same as Rome per episode. Of course it will have a lower budget than things like Lotr.

And they do quite a bit of CGI to make the castles, cities, large camps, battlefields and other landscapes look right. And dragons.

I don't really see how you can say it is low quality. Look at the costume and set designs for instance. The only thing they lack is a very high profiled cast (apart from a couple of them). That doesn't really matter given the good job they do.

Wasn't there some blind kid in the Faceless Man dojo? That would imply it's just a phase of her training.

guys I think we are searching for brans murderer in the wrong way littlefinger or tyrion would never let such an amateur try and kill an important person as bran stark they are both geniuses in their own way I think its more likely that joffrey attempted to kill bran because you notice how much he hates the starks (scene with the swords with robb, arya , and the scene with his mother)

I love it, this guy is pretty much dead on, in his first post, but its in the wrong damn thread.

I think it was a punishment more than training. She's taught that she is "no one" and to forget her past identity, but she kills a deserter (something Arya would do) and then drinks some milk marked for "Arya."

I dunno, when has something bad ever happened and it turned out ok? Even cat coming back sucked(well if im honest I was glad that she was gone.. just wish the red wedding hadnt happened ) True though, we haven't heard of the other blind kid since so it could be part of the training, or he could have died or even ran away, I just love/amcompletelyfu*kingnervous that I'm not sure at all... this guy could do anything :/

Like someone in that thread pointed out...that scene never made it into the series, it was only in the books so we can assume he read them and wanted to look like he is quite the awesome dude, figuring it out on his own.
God i hate such people.

Well...on the other hand quite funny that the whole thing blew up :D

I gotta say, I liked the first episodes much more than the last ones.

Joffrey's actor doesn't know how to do a vile face. I liked Arya at first but it seems she can't cry or do a sad/raging face. Shae is supposed to be sleezy not all moundain and shit (Although she gets +1 for being a porn actress xD). Tywin doesn't seem too mean with Tyrion, and we didn't see the latter suffer through the fight.
The most disappointing might be the story of Jon. No real excitement + He doesn't feel like Jon is supposed to be (he's trying to make a good sad and resigned face but it doesn't quite fit and he's doing it all the time which is starting to be annoying)

Also Jorah's fight wasn't as exiting as drogo's.in ep8 or as ned and jaime's. The other guy had his sword grabbed and stood there waiting for what seemed to be the slowest blow ever.

However I will admit that little finger's "Im not gonna fight them, Im gonna fuck them" in a latter episode was epic. The other actors, the first to be introduced in the series, are good, sometimes awesome. Hell can you make a better bitch than Cersei or a better khal than Jason momoa's Drogo ? Hope they get more and more of the likes of those..
