I'm just having a hard time picturing AFFC as a particularly satisfying season, and since the two books were originally meant to be a single book, it might make sense. It's hard to speculate without having read Dragons, of course, but still... AFFC was a snoozefest, imo.
I think those books will be combined but they will take at least two seasons to go through those books.

i agree it would be a good idea if they make the season like 20 episodes i would like 20 episodes per season

Each season consists of one book, that means we are almost done with the first book with only one episode left.

I hope season 2 goes quite a bit into Book 3, since soooooo much more happens in book 3 than book 2.
Also, how are they going to promote next season? With the two most famous actors dead(Sean Bean, Mark Addy) it seems like they may have a hard time promoting it. Who's going to get top billing? Peter Dinklage(Tyrion) would be my guess.
|
Isn't there a ghost of Sean Bean scene in the Winterfell Crypts?
|
lol - top billing for appearing in one scene as a ghost. hehe
|
Yeah, its no good unless Sean Bean's character dies.
Movie law.

Episode 2.09 is the Blackwater, so the second season will cover book 2 pretty closely. What they coud do was to make season 3 cover everything in book 3 up until the battle at the Wall. That is almost the same amount of pages as book 1 if I recall correctly. Then they could have season 4 be the "downfall of the Lannisters" season with the end of book 3 and some of book 4, possibly also some of book 5 if they want to run that story concurrently.
Of course it could be pretty bad to have the Red Wedding in season 3 and having to wait a whole year for the Purple Wedding. Another possibility would be to make season 3 14-15 episodes, but they said that it would be hard for them to do that on their time budget and maintain the same quality.
|
Glossing over the battle for budget reasons is one thing but did they have to change Robb's entire strategy as well? 2,000 (sacrificial wolves) instead of splitting his "foot" from his cavalry to face Tywin.
They were just "talking" about the battles anyway so why did they have to change the numbers...

All of this discussion on length of seasons is silly talk. HBO will make decisions based on profit, as it rightly should. Profit is a function of revenue minus cost. Longer seasons = higher profits and higher costs. Somewhere, there is a break-even point after which incremental costs eclipse incremental revenue. Trust their accounting team to come up with this data; the directors have little input here and will have to abide by the decision.

I've heard a lot of lol-worthy comments regarding Drogo / the child. My girlfriend was so upset when Ned died and Drogo is one of her favorite characters. She's going to be so very upset this Sunday.

And what functions do cost and revenue depend on? The directors' input. This isn't econ1001 where you get given cost and revenue as dependent on quantity to be optimised, instead what we have here is the optimisation of the budget vs quality of the show, which the directors most certainly do have a say in.

And if the show is low quality there will be less profit then if they made it a little longer. Of course the director's input is taken into account, it is silly to think that accountants don't give a shit about the director's/creator's thoughts of how it should go.
Anyway I think I read somewhere that the next season will be 12 episodes(probably on westeros.org, too lazy to look it up)

So hopefully HBO will have plenty of monies to make an awesome season 2.
On another note, who the hell paid that assassin to kill Bran? I just can't remember.
