I know they're breaking this book into two seasons. Wikipedia has the episode titles for all of season 3. Episode 9 is titled "The Rains of Castamere". I can't imagine that not being the RW. Also, episode 7 is titled "The Bear and the Maiden Fair", so I guess we know when the bear fight is happening too. Also also, tsk tsk at TheToaster. I'm not going to get all high and mighty and say I don't pirate things, but it's frowned upon on TL. G.R.R. said that the RW will be in the last episode. The LAST episode? Damn, they might lose a few TV "fans" if they do that. I thought the show was great, I'm capable of separating the books and the show so I don't really mind the changes much if at all. The show is perfectly capable of being good and satisfying in its own way -- even though I think the books are better and much more satisfying : ) This. A million times this.

I want to see more of Tormund, and am not that impressed yet with Jon/Mance dynamic. I was really hoping for "Did you see where they put the bastard?", a pity they left it out, but understandable considering the backstory required. Ygritte+Jon was A+. Tyrion's scenes are great as always, Tyrion+Tywin was everything I hoped it to be, and the interaction with both Cersei and Bronn is wonderful. Bronn is one of the most improved characters from the books, that guy owns his role. Davos is another. His attempted assassination of Melisandre was a bit haphazard, but it worked out. Stannis + Mel both great. Barristan's outing was a bit disappointing (I was so stoked for quarterstaff+long beard), but it isn't that big of a deal in the end. Dany's other scenes were great, the subtleties in the reactions to what Kraznys says is such an improvement over the stupidity of some of Dany's S2 stuff. Margaery is the big surprise for me this episode. Natalie Dormer owns the role and her scenes this episode puts the cogs into motion for Cersei way faster than the book's plot did. Not to mention she's smoking hot. Paranoid Cersei is going to be a delight to see. All in all, I'm very pleased.

Despite the changes not appearing to be that game changing so far, it was still a pretty disappointing episode (6/10 at best), well, at least I got me some tyrion and bronn, the dragons' lady seems to have gotten slightly less annoying too.

![]() Other than that though I'm actually kind of glad that they chose to make the changes. It makes it more interesting for me, having already read the books. The changes also gives the writers more leverage with characterization, considering that a narrating character can't just tell you their story through a third person monologue like is possible in novels. The only thing that is absent from the show that I wish were there is the political intrigue and the intricate subplots that Martin incorporates throughout the books. Many of these subplots give us the complex pictures of the characters that make it hard to totally just hate a character. I've found that there is always a place where you can rationally or emotionally identify with a character (that is, the narrating characters) even if you might condemn their actions. In the TV show some of these subplots are there but they are usually just there to develop the main plot and not the characters themselves. I get less of a picture of complex characters but rather just characters that fit a theme. Overall I get the impression that if I hadn't read the books I'd think this show was the best thing ever; me having read the books just adds an unfair level of expectation from the writers. They are doing what they can with the format they have and I think that they have done quite well making it an entertaining experience, even if it is somewhat less thought-provoking because of it. Even if I totally disapproved of the way the story and characters were done I think I would still watch the television show because some of the women are pretty damn good-looking

No, I think she was just a spy with an opportunity Poor Robb not only he dies with all his men and his mother but he also finds out that the true love that make him break his word with the Frey was a fake ![]() There's some subtle hints later on that Jeyne's mother urged her with either the blessings, or under the hope of, gaining favour from Tywin, hence why Jeyne was given (implied in my mind) drinks to induce abortions. And also the reason why the Westerlings were pardoned so quickly after by the Lannisters. Maybe I'm just mis-remembering things though.

On April 01 2013 22:00 0x64 wrote: Wow, cool episode. A lot of hater here, but most of the hater are really complaining about details and nuances that makes the book good. That is brainless, just watch the show from the perspective of someone who has not read the books. All the changes are actually about removing confusion and extra characters that don't have a long term value for the story. You don't want to cast twice the amount of awesome actors just to have them in 3 scenes. What they should have done is have 1 extra episode for each episode. No effects, no action, just the characters going through internal monologues and bring something deeper. Something viewer could skip if they only want the action... That would work beautifully with the material in the background. My predictions: -Karstark cuts hand of Jamie, Rob put Karstack to death for that. -Talisa is the lannister spy and will be a turncloack on the RW -Theon will be done closer to the book than people expect. He will be reek. No reason not to do so. It will just be a good way to introduce Ramsay and viewers won't think twice about who is the prisoner And finally, yeah, they butchered Littlefinger, but on the positive side, they can't go lower, maybe something will redeem that storyline. Make the intention of Littlefinger clear and open will just leave a good amount of suspicion for those who have not read the book. I can see your point but my biggest problem with the episode is the scene in Mance's tent. In the book Jon tells Mance that he wants to join him because he is regarded as only a bastard in Westeros. The scene was extra powerful because the theme of being a bastard, especially Jon's bastardy, is so prominent in the story. The same in the series. So I ask why did they change Jon's original motivation to join Mance from this: "And did you see where I was seated, Mance?" He leaned forward. "Did you see where they put the bastard?" Mance Rayder looked at Jon's face for a long moment. "I think we had best find you a new cloak," the king said holding out his hand. (A Storm of Swords 1:Steel and Snow p.104.) To this: -We stopped at Craster's Keep on the way north. -I saw... -You saw what? -I saw Craster take his own baby boy and leave it in the woods. I saw what took it. -You're telling me you saw one of them? -And why would that make you desert your brothers? -Because when I told the Lord Commander, he already knew. -Thousands of years ago, the First Men battled the White Walkers and defeated them. -I want to fight for the side that fights for the living. -Did I come to the right place? -We'll need to find you a new cloak. Why change it? I asked a friend who haven't read the books whether he found Jon's reasoning convincing. He said no.
