Just found this gem of a thread on TL!

Can anyone recommend me some dubstep tracks? I generally listen to Bar9 or Vexare.

been keen on dubstep and trying to get it out there since like 2007, its recent spike in popularity makes me feel like it's just going to be one of those fads that comes and goes. hell most of the decent producers that i know of are moving to producing other genres because of the popularity towards "brostep"

Hey, yes I'm one of those guys that only caught onto dubstep late last year, but I find it really awesome to listen to in the background while I play games like HoN, been going through a bit of this thread as well and I'd like to put in two that I've been listening to lately.

is anyone willing to show me the differences between original, good dubstep and the newer (and crappier?) versions of dubstep?

How's about listening?
If you like it, it's the good kind.
If you don't, it's the crappy kind.

yeah but I don't get the difference between the two, because my mate told me dubstep started getting crap when it went mainstream and loads of new artists came along and didn't put the dedication into the song etc.

I have no idea about those, which is obviously why I'm asking people to show me because I just listen to all the dubstep I find and can't really differentiate.

My friend produces Dubstep! He's starting to get his name out there and he's been getting some more ups with his recent release, but I thought I'd promote him here xD. Check it out, maybe even consider purchasing for the HQ versions!

omfg this. To me Skrillex stands for everything that's wrong with generic dubstep these days.

Also, hope these haven't been posted yet and if they have np.

Hipsters in dubstep; shoulda seen in coming.

I like some of the DnB and Electro/House producers that have made some dubstep tracks. Feed Me and Nero are definitely my favorites, and a lot of their best has already been posted in this thread, and the other one that's CharlieMurphy's old blog.

What he is saying is true though. Skrillex or any other brostep producer is currently just masturbating to "epic" drops without having any soul in their music. I guess that's what you lose when a genre is going mainstream. Go listen to some Digital mysticz/mala/early skream or anyother producer that makes dubstep and not brostep, light that spliff and chill instead of being one of those fools who thinks you mosh to dubste and that Skrillex is the single greatest producer.

Well that's the first time I've ever been called a hipster, but if disliking Skrillex means that, I'm okay with it.

All I see is a lot of new dubstep fans coming onto the scene and claiming Skrillex is the best thing ever when he hasn't in my eyes done anything that hasn't already been done many times over by better producers than he. Nor does he bring anything unique to his tracks.

i'm not a musician, but it's hard to really 'blame' skrillex for anything.
i mean yea i kinda agree with some of the sentiment here, but imagine the seinfeld scenario where you make a show that flops in america but is really popular in japan. you can't really control that, but you're likely to keep making what the japanese like. mostly because skrillex likes producing and 'they' eat it up. more power to him, but as for the brostep/dubstep/hipster/mainstream arguments - does it really even matter?

How can you agree with that and then go on to post Bass Cannon? The sole purpose of that song is for rolling kids to lose their shit when they hear it live.
