Maybe he felt bad for Glen and the mission isn't as time sensitive as he says it is. Book + Show Spoiler + I assume that you read up on Eugene's motive but just to be safe  Book + Show Spoiler + The sooner they get to Washington DC, the sooner Abraham finds out Eugene's been bullshitting him the whole time. Abraham seems to be the sole reason why Eugene is still alive, so Eugene wants to be under his protection as long as possible. | ||

God I was really afraid this half of the season would be like this. So much jumping around and about 4 or 5 different groups roaming and having their own merry adventures. They need to reunite, and REAL soon. This sanctuary town seems to be where everything will culminate in the end. | ||

I agree this was a terribly boring episode, but I don't think they need to reunite nor do I believe they will (at least not fully). Having them all come together again seems like it'll just port the prison story (that went on too long) over to this Sanctuary place they're headed. With the governor out of the picture I don't see that as a sustainable story. Where would we have any good conflict? Frankly, I don't know where they're going to go from here. To me the end of the prison and the governor put the show in its biggest challenge yet. They've already done the megalomaniac antagonist, they've already done their best attempt at rebuilding a society, they've even done the pathological breakout arc. It seems best and likely we're going back down the exploration road, which we haven't really seen since season 1. | ||
