I don't know if this has been posted yet. But THIS movie was amazing and extremely well done.

+1 for shinjuku incident

I really like this one but I'm sure most people will be too influenced by emotions/previous movies to get the message. (Based on my opinion and reading lots of comments on imdb)

not your typical terrorist-> bomb -> torture -> interrogate movie. You have to look past that.

Okay I've actually read the entire thread, and it made me discover some great movies, so I guess i should contribute too :

Screamers (1995)

It's a movie that got totally destroyed by critics and had very low publicity, but since I don't trust critics anyway I still bought a ticket. Suffice to say, I trust critics even less now.
It's not the best movie ever by any means, but it's got a great story based on a Phillip K. Dick novel, and Peter Weller is excellent in it.
Despite the low budget, the director rendered this apocalyptic world very well. The CGI is nowhere near today's standards though, but whatever, it's still a great watch . Every Sci-fi fan should see it.
Attention : don't watch the sequel, you've been warned.

Anders Thomas Jensen (who made the movie) has done some other movies with similar style/humour (more comedy than Flickering lights) and all of them are amazing:

The Green Butchers

Adam's Apples

Best danish director/screenwriter imo.

Very nice Thread. Worked through all the sites ^^; took some time but it was worth it! Ok here my statement:

HIDDEN GEMS:

Layer Cake (++): Not really hidden :D(knew this film since some time), but YES good YES Daniel Craig YES Gangster shit! 2 thumps up.

Cannibal Holocaust (--): 99% of the movies thrill comes from the title; the rest (1%) is the movie itself... total bullshit

Dobermann (++): a classic movie, crazy, sexy, cool and funny as hell. Just watch it and have fun!

Cube (+): Yes ofc Cube belongs to here. Simple but sick story. Classic movie.

Old men in new cars (++): I love those 2 films. Black humor, great actors and totaly unexpectable! A Hell of fun!

The Host (++):[image loading] Great "monster movie" out of the big movie country South Korea :D. Really a blockbuster in my point of view. I was really blown away by the actors; especially Song Kang-ho is really one of a kind. 10/10

Every movie i missed now, will edit it later. Now my addings!!

The Good Cop [image loading] I love every movie with Kim Bodnia but this one is really watchable!

The Pusher Trilogy:
The masterpiece of Nicolas Winding Refn. Could write a book about this films.
Bad and dark. Bloody and hard. Just .... E P I C. Give this movies a chance and you wont regret it!!!!!

Suprisingly good movie:

Harsh times: [image loading] Christian Bale and Freddy Rodriguez in their most sympathetic/chilly role. Love every second of it and when i first saw the ending i really got a heart attack :D

Event Horizon: [image loading] Evil Sci-Fi Terror. I loooove Scifi-Horror and this was my first one at a very young age. Couldn´t find sleep some days :D

Letters from iwo jima: [image loading] Well, an emotinal movie. Great moviemaking. Sad story. Amazing Soundtrack.

And last but not least: MY EXCEPTIONAL Adding! XD

Brain dead!: [image loading] One of the early movies of Peter Jackson(Yes Peter Jackson, the one with this lord of the ring stuff :D).
Massive amount of blood and same amount of fun :D. CLASSIC =D

I think that movie is based off something else almost identical, how ironic, but can't figure it out right now. In regards to time travel, I still prefer the likes of Primer and Triangle (not time travel per se).

I think you mentioned it yourself - it seems to be based off Triangle.

I went through all the pages and I didn't see anyone mentioning this film. Great Japanese cult. There are two sequels, but the original is the most worth watching.

Plot from wikipedia (has to be the weirdest I've ever seen): + Show Spoiler +
The film opens with a man (called only "the man", or the "Metal Fetishist"), cutting open a massive gash in his leg and then shoving a large threaded steel rod into the wound. Later, upon seeing maggots festering in the wound, he screams, runs out into the street, and is hit by a car. The driver of the car, a Japanese businessman (Tomorowo Taguchi), and his girlfriend (Kei Fujiwara} try to cover up the mess by dumping the body into a ravine, but the dumped man gets revenge by forcing the businessman's body to gradually metamorphose into a walking pile of scrap metal. This process starts when the driver finds a piece of metal stuck in his cheek while shaving. He tries to remove it, but realizes it is growing from the inside.

The scene shifts to the businessman at his home having breakfast, with a bandage over his cheek. The businessman receives a phone call, consisting of nothing but him and the other speaker (possibly his girlfriend) continuously saying "Hello?" to each other and thinking back to having sex after dumping the Metal Fetishist.

The first of several highly stylized chase scenes starts with the driver pursued through an underground train station by a woman whose body has been taken over by the Metal Fetishist. The businessman seems to win this encounter by breaking the back of the radically transformed woman (she begins the sequence as a demure office worker and ends it as a wild metal-infected woman) after even more metal has erupted on his ankles and arm.

The next segment is a terrifying dream sequence where the businessman's girlfriend, transformed into an exotic dancer with a snake-like metal probe, terrorizes and rapes the businessman. After waking from this dream, the businessman and his girlfriend have sex at his apartment and eat erotically. As she eats each bite given to her, he hears the sounds of metal scraping. The businessman suddenly discovers his penis has mutated into a gargantuan power drill. A fight ensues where the businessman terrorizes his girlfriend, and acquires more and more metal on his body. She fights back and in the end impales herself on his drill and dies.

Helpless to do anything, the businessman, now the Iron Man, is visited by the Metal Fetishist, who emerges from his dead girlfriend's corpse to show him a vision of a "New World" of nothing but metal and turn his cats into grotesque metal creatures. The Iron Man flees and is followed by the Metal Fetishist into an abandoned building. After the Metal Fetishist explains to the Iron Man how both of them became what they are, a final battle ensues. The Iron Man ends by attempting to merge himself with the Fetishist into a horrific two-headed metal monster. The two agree to turn the whole world into metal and rust it, scattering it into the dust of the universe by claiming "Our love can put an end to this fucking world. Let's Go!" The duo charges through the streets of Japan. The film ends with the words "GAME OVER" as opposed to "The End" after the closing credits.

Edit: Thanks for all the good films mentioned

If you want to watch a dark, psychological thriller Kokuhaku/Confessions is an excellent pick.

This film doesn't deserve to stay "hidden", so go watch it.

It's based on an excellent book of the same name but being a book adaptation I thought it would be mediocre at best. Turns out it is really good and fairly faithful to the book. Really enjoyable but quite sad.

I really love this thread, found tons of good movies thanks to it. Thank you everyone!

I'll try to add some I haven't seen listed:
Title: JCVD - (Yes, Jean Claude van Dam) This movie is actually pretty good. He (van Dam) depicts acting skills I didn't know he possessed. Definitely worth a watch.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1130988/

Title: Little Big Soldier - One of Jackie Chan's more recent movies. Has some brilliant fight scenes as well as Jackie's wonderful humor. I highly recommend.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1319718/

Title: Reign of Assassins (Jianyu) - Michelle Yeoh. The story is a bit questionable, but has some of the greatest martial arts action I have ever seen.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1460743/

Title: Rock n Rolla - This one may have been mentioned but I forget. Reminded me of Snatch. All star cast ( Gerard Butler, Tom Wilkinson, Tom Hardy)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1032755/

If anyone likes these let me know and I'll come up with some more. <3
