Castaway on the Moon (what an idiotic poster for such a great movie)
You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll cheer.
Wow I just saw this, thanks for the suggestion, it was really entertaining and heartwarming lol.
god this movie just makes me feel good every time I see it. I was cheering the whole time once he got on the island, such a good movie...and just how the girl acts gets me to chuckle a little.

If anyone likes these let me know and I'll come up with some more. <3
Both movies were done by Guy Ritchie. You should check out if you haven't seen it.
I recently saw "Drive" in the cinema, was expecting the normal action flick. But instead I got served a new age western style movie much like No country for old men.

Timecrimes
A man accidentally gets into a time machine and travels back in time nearly an hour. Finding himself will be the first of a series of disasters of unforeseeable consequences.
Really liked this movie and hate almost everything else JCVD does, Its not in English but it is really good.
Also if you like historical movies this series is great Its an story of the king of Thailand who liberated Thailand from Burma, I'm staying in Thailand now and was just introduced to these movies and they really are amazing and good special effects considering its not a Hollywood block buster.
Edit: Part 1 and 2 have been relesed in the US earlier this year with the title kingdom of War, and here is the Trailer to Part 3 which I saw in theaters
I thought "The Rum Diary" was going to be niche and funny in its own way like Fear and Loathing. Although my expectations weren't low, they were quite high for this one even after the first movie Depp did depicting Hunter S Thompson. But I was completely blown away, I would even go far as to say one of the best things I've ever viewed on a screen in a lifetime filled with things viewed on screens.
Great film. Here's what I wrote after I saw it on Friday.....
Best thing ever put on a screen. if you need everything wrapped up in a tight little box then go buy yourself some christmas gifts, wrap them, then knock yourself unconscious and hope you don't wake before midnight. Fuck the critics go watch puss in boots if you call yourself a critic. Cause apparently that one sticks to their norm formula they're so entrenched in with it. Your brain has rotted if you call one ounce of this film rotten. This was nothing like Fear and Loathing. And I enjoyed Fear and Loathing for what it was although I don' t think it was much of a movie.. Fear and Loathing was no narrative with no conflict. This has tons of both. This is also one of Depp's finest films, and definitely one of his funniest. If you can appreciate more than a hint of subtlety and don't need every last damn word spelled out for you, then bask my friends this is your day.

It's based on an excellent book of the same name but being a book adaptation I thought it would be mediocre at best. Turns out it is really good and fairly faithful to the book. Really enjoyable but quite sad.
That movie hurts in so many ways. It's a wonderful adaption of Murakami's novel and asian "drama" at its best. Didn't get enough media attention at all.
For connaisseurs of asian cinema, the following gem can't be called hidden. For all the other people out there, go watch it:
A collection of three amazing short horror movies from three separate directors Takashi Miike (Ichi the Killer, Audition), Chan-wook Park (Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Sympathy for Mrs. Vengeance) and Fruit Chan.
Krzysztof Kieslowski: Three Colors. It's a trilogy of movies dedicated to the country of France, therefore dubbed "Red", "Blue" and "White". They're all fucking amazing, yet so different from each other in atmosphere and storytelling.
Don't remember how I ended up watching this but it is amazing. It is a documentary.
A documentary about the kids who run(and by run I mean rule) the streets of an Haiti slum. The president payed them to keep the slums in check.. So its pretty much a bunch of kids with AK-47s who get payed to be gangsters. And it is all real!
A documentary about F1 racer Ayrton Senna. Don't be disuaded by the subject, the film is amazing. Interestingly, in making the documentary they produced no new audio or video, but its entirely composed of existing footage and audio.
Don't know if this has been mentioned or not but here it goes.Amazing sci-fi film starring Sam Rockwell and the voice of Kevin Spacey. Also directed by the same guy who did The Source Code. Here is the trailer.
Castaway on the Moon, thought it was very good also quite funny.
I echo this sentiment. Just saw it on netflix a few days ago and I felt like watching a korean movie so I figured what the hell. Was very suprised though, it was quite good.
If you have never tried Indian films, Taare Zameen Par is a good place to start. I won't give too much away, but its themes are very relevant even to Westerners. It runs a little bit long at 2 hours and 45 minutes and you'll have to rely on subtitles, but it's still a very good movie with at least a little bit of a takeaway for everyone.
