More like Shitter Island - I had the misfortune of watching this in theaters. They are puffing on cigarettes pretty much the whole movie and it just made me want to chain smoke. The acting was terrible, and the plot had so many holes in it. This movie was just bad.
Watched Ginger Snaps (teenage girl werewolf movie). I liked it. It could've been better, but it wasn't bad. I'd reccomend watching it if you want to see a decent movie and don't have any particular genre in mind. It's not really a horror movie imo, but it's not just a girly drama movie either (pure drama is boring).
Oldboy-Excellent film, left me speechless at the end. The Man from Earth-Didn't like it at all. And no, I'm not someone who can't appreciate slow paced, dialog driven movies; I simply didn't like it, found it boring. The Fountain-Fantastic. Long, and a bit slow paced, but great film, left me thinking. Irreversible-God I hated this film. Don't recommend it. The camera actually spins for minutes at a time, to the point of being nauseating. And it was frankly very boring. This is England-Loved it. Slow to start but really built momentum, great acting. Primer-Loved it. Confusing as hell, total mind fuck. I'll have to watch it again. The Prestige-Liked it a lot. I don't think I've seen a Chris Nolan movie I haven't liked. Altered States-Liked it, not great but good, worth watching, very much an experience, as it is such an unorthodox film. Moon-Good, not as great as I expected, doesn't hold a candle to 2001 IMO. The Salton Sea-Hated it. Awful film. Such a dumb plot. Acting is bad. Predictable.
Punch-Drunk Love Yes, an Adam Sandler movie you might actually like. This movie has a lot of heart, I'm actually getting in the mood to rewatch it by typing this.
Garden State Really like Natalie Portman in this, and the soundtrack sucked me in.
Have to give some +1s to these in particular, mostly ones that haven't been mentioned a bunch:
Behind the Mask: the Rise of Leslie Vernon An old roommate of mine used to have horror movie nights with his buddies at our place every weekend. About 99% of the movies were god awful, but this one was amazing. Very interesting take on the whole horror genre.
Once Music sucked me in (its a pattern), loved that they didn't use regular actors too.
Moon First movie I ever watched over Netflix streaming, definitely worth it. (Ok this has been in here a lot, but still...)
Stranger than Fiction I think an earlier poster said said they were surprised there was a Will Ferrell with heart, good sentiment. The story is pretty original too.
The Viscious Kind Adam Scott has really been growing on me as an actor. Check out Party Down (TV show) as well for more of him.
A Scanner Darkly Had to go to an indie theater to see this, but it was worth it.
Mr. Brooks On here due to the shear surprise of liking a Kevin Costner movie that wasn't Dances with Wolves.
Wes Anderson's stuff is great.
Citizen Kane Yeah its a classic, but its old enough a lot of people here might not have seen it. First time I saw this movie on TCM (no commercials) I missed the intro and had no idea what it was. I was enthralled the entire time. Interestingly, RKO 281 is also pretty good, about the making of Citizen Kane.
The Hobbit, Secret of Nimh and Legend All movies I remember loving when I was little, and hold a special place in my heart. Plus Tim Curry plays the devil in Legend, with huge fake horns and everything, which is awesome in my book.
I joined this forum mainly for this thread. Watched some of your recommendations, and so far so good.
Here's my contribution:
Basically, this was a novel, the author of whom is the same author whose written Jurassic Park.
I have a personal taste for movies that are intelligent, and goes into details quite a bit. I'm sure a lot of Starcraft players are alike in this regard.
Although a very different genre, I'd say if you're into "The Man on Earth", you'll probably enjoy this movie.
Snatch: Didn't expect anything special, just randomly saw it while switching through channels. One of the funniest movies I have ever seen. It all seems so random, and then it makes perfect sense. In a way.
easy A: I normally don't like highschool-comedies. But this one had a) a plot and b) likeable characters. The ending wasn't that great, but otherwise a very good movie.

I believe you'd be better off watching the old version of this back from 1971:
