The Audition - Aesthetically horrifying and rather visceral. Not for those who shudder at dismemberment. Battle Royale - One of those dystopian flicks that leave you with a turmoil of emotion Joint Security Area - A beautifully sad story about the realities of civil war Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance - Prequel to Oldboy The Host - An entertaining, Shaun-of-the-Dead-esque approach to mutated river monsters. I'll post more if I have a dig through my cabinet of VCRs and DVDs sometime.

If you look past the cheesy stuff you can get a real understanding of human fear and emotion. The scene with the mother talking to the main character or the crazy captain talking about his experiences with sharks only to be eaten by one at the end. It's really a masterpiece. I wouldn't call Jaws a hidden gem or a "surprisingly" good film ![]() It's one of the greatest.. ever!

![]() Most people will probably think this is really silly/cheesy/whatever but I liked it. First 40 minutes are boring but are necessary. Last 80 minutes are REALLY well done.

![]() ^About a guy in a phone booth, talking to a stranger with a sniper rifle aimed at him, manipulating him to do whatever he wants. Good stuff.

Awesome) -Michael Collins (The Irish Bravehear?) -Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (may not be a hidden gem, but I'm a fan) -City of God (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: A story about the history of gang warfare in a Brazillian slum. Unbelievably good) -In Bruges (Mentioned above I think, but definitely worth a watch if you like dark humor) -The Wind That Shakes the Barely (another movie re: The Irish Civil War/War for Independence) -Above The Rim (Can't go wrong with Tupac in a starring role (the movie is about basketball)) -Goal! (A great movie about a Mexican soccer player who moves to America only to be recruited by a Scotsman who plays for the Brits) -Memento (hell as crazy is movie this. An awesome psychological thriller) -Thank You For Smoking (An awesome satirical movie about a lobbyist) Sorry if this is more than you were loking for, but you got me convinced to check through my collection, and these were all movies I recommend to people I've never really met, since I can usually assume they haven't seen them. i think we should go on a date

Thirst was really good, and very creepy. I'd say it's the best vampire movie I've ever seen, really addresses vampirism in a mature, and relatively drama-free manner (as opposed to twilight lol). A Bittersweet Life was good. Koreans sure don't like happy endings though. Finally got around to seeing The Man From Earth, and it was ok.
