As far as my contributions of movies I have seen recently : Punisher War Zone, Much better than I expected. Probably the best punisher movie so far. Really like the way the action is filmed compared to most 'action' movies. I also really like the villains, especially the crazy brother, and even more specifically the scene where he is in the house and the cops come hahaha. Also, I never really liked Christian Bale and I still pretty much don't. But 2 good movies that aren't really known that he is in are The Machinist and Rescue Dawn. Predictable but still good anyways. The Mist, Based on the short story from the skeleton crew book by stephen king. It's pretty good, It's not great but I was just surprised at how good it was (I always go into movies, [especially lower budget or lesser known ones] with zero expectations.) Wicker man lol, this movie is so bad. Must see. And then ofc there are the ones that have been named 100 times already probably. That are the true films that belong in a thread like this: Cube, Primer, The Man From Earth, Memento, City Of God. And then here are some movies from my DVD collection that are not well known/old that are good: Dracula The Dark Prince, This is an origin story of the age old tale of Vlad 'the impaler' Dracul and how he comes to be. Basically about his entire life before he becomes the legendary dracula. Mostly about war, politics, religion and things like that. It's really good, I can't really describe the movie much without giving away too much info but just watch it. Monster Squad, ofc this is an 80s classic monster movie. Part comedy, Part horror, all awesome. I grew up watching this movie like every week, and I still love it. Which is rare for a movie. (usually when you see it as a kid you realize it is bad when you are older) From Dusk Til Dawn, Not sure if this movie applies to this thread. But it seems that I am older now and this movie might not be as well known. But it's definitely a good flick. Riki-OH, I actually first heard of this movie from TL like 5 years ago or some shit. It's really bad but it has some really ridiculous over the top gore and prop work. Fight scenes are cool, etc. But the story and characters are shitty. Definitely a must see as well. Bullet, Good movie about a recent parolee and his fucked up life he comes back into the ghetto of NY. Drugs, Gangs, Hustling, Fighting, etc. This movie will probably leave you pissed off or depressed. King Of New York, Similar plotline as above except this parolee is actually a rich man who ran the city and is getting back into his old business/life. (wow just realized how similar these movies are). This movie deals more with corruption and the fine line of good and bad. Really great old movie. Colors, again not sure if this is less known, but it's old so whatever. It's about a rookie cop and and old cop patroling the streets of LA and dealing with the gangs in the 80s (bloods/crips). Lots of crazy shit happens and it's just an all around good film. District B13, One of the few foreign films I ever liked. It's got a lot of parkour (freestyle walking/running stuff) which is cool. It's about this city in the future that got so bad that they just walled it in and it became a dumping ground prison for bad people (really over the top plot, but if you can get past that it's cool). Reminiscent of Escape from New York with Kurt Russel but much different. Cool movie. Bad Boys, No not the stupid cop movie with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. This is about a kid who goes to juvie and has to survive. Standard prison type of movie but for a teenager. Pretty good movie even though somewhat over the top. A Scanner Darkly, based on a Philip K Dick story. It's about this guy/these people who are all wrapped up in this super drug called D. Set in the future, the twist is that D also makes you paranoid and hallucinate and the main character is also a spy. So naturally, it gets confusing and it's a bit of a mind fuck. The Thing, PayBack, and StarShip Troopers are some of my all time favorite movies. You can read about them in my old blog http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=56937 which I haven't updated in almost a year now. (but have still been keeping track of movies I have watched recently)

They are similar in the respect that Bale plays a starving character. Other than that, no.

It`s based on the life of this real documenterian guy Jacques Cousteau and has a campy hilarious feel to it. But I like Wes Anderson`s movies alot though. I cannot say that I have alot of "hidden" gems. I read alot about upcoming movies and ratings of older ones so I seldomly get surprised since I mostly watch movies that have been recommended by people I have a tendency to agree with. I found Metropolis by Fritz Lang to be surprisingly bad though, The Tin Drum was alot better than I expected when I saw it. Had to watch it twice before I was able to apreciate it properly though, first time I got too distracted by the grossness.

Although the remake wasn't bad at all I somehow felt it lacked something the original did have. Avalon Set in a world where the line between gaming and living is blurring. What is real and what isn't. The movie has more layers as (for most) meet the eye at first glance. Made by the director of Ghost in the Shell. (the movie is in Polish. couldn't find an English trailer so a French one will have to do) They remade 12 angry men? thats tragic. Avalon is awesome, perfect example of a hidden gem of a film.

But the only way to truly enjoy it is watching it in the original language with the right subtitles. The English synchro is terribad and the subtitles that have been remade for the American version (why ever) are bad as well. But definitely watch the movie if you're in for an unconventional romantic vampire story.

Mongol is an epic about temudjin, or rather as he became known as, ghengis khan. He had a surprisingly interesting childhood, this movie is more about him growing up, and how he united mongolia, more than his campaign in china. Don't expect a lack of action just because it's him growing up, he had a pretty fucking intense childhood. Also some decent romance in there. Also a surprisingly good drama/mystery with some romance around the center of the plot It's about a magician (center) who plans to elope with a childhood friend (right) who is engaged to a prince (not sure, might be a duke) the magician then sets up the grandest trick he has ever done. A police officer in the city (left) investigates several incidents during the movie. Packed with some good dialogue, and better plot, this movie takes place during the industrial revolution. So there's one from each category
