Also umm I really have problems finding good Power or Progressive metal. When done well it's really good, but I just haven't found any good songs in like forever..
Well what do you already like as far as power/prog goes? I could name some good bands but if you're expecting them all to be Pain of Salvation/Dream Theater then I think you'll be a bit disappointed.
Also, I have no idea what a Doujin metal band sounds like.

Well doujin metal isn't really a genre, I think. I just call doujin bands that play metal.. doujin metal. It's like remixes, although most of them have some of their own stuff, and they're mostly purely instrumental. For example,
S.S.H.
Crow's Claw
I really like this kind of vocalless music as my bg-music when playing Starcraft or anything else. I wonder if there are other good ones...
And well, for Prograssive metal I like Pathosray and... Mekong Delta has nice music, Dream Theater naturally, Spiral Architect has good music but meh singing, Queensryche and such... but lately I've been trying to find some good bands and haven't found any decent progressive metal :/
For Power Metal, I like stuff like Rhapsody's good songs, Hibria, Hammerfall is pretty good, Crimson Glory... Seems like there's almost no good power metal left :/
Oh, and of course bands like Adramelch that are more of a combination of both Power and Progressive. And also, I wonder if there are any female-fronted Gothic Metal bands that have something other than just ballads? I wonder if there's another band like Delight(During their album The Fading Tale)
all I can say is that testament has never impressed me except for a few songs on Practice, The Legacy, and Low.
Mekong Delta is an amazing band though. Some of their stuff starts to sound a bit disjointed, but overall really good. The vocals are so amazing on Dances of Death
As for good power, all of the power metal bands I like have a thrashy edge to them. Dark Empire and Persuader, both mentioned earlier in this thread are really good. Watch Tower and Fates Warning are some good prog metal

If you know any of these bands then disregard.
Pagan's Mind (prog) Ihsahn's solo work (prog) (some harsh vocals) Adagio (power-prog) Ayreon (prog) Dan Swäno - Moontower (prog) (harsh vocals) Theory in Practice - Colonizing the Sun (really really technical prog) (harsh vocals) Subterranean Masquerade - Suspended Animation Dreams (prog) (clean/harsh vocals) Stratovarius (power-prog) (clean vox) Porcupine Tree (prog ROCK but very good) (clean vocals) Katatonia (prog) (clean vox) Edge of Sanity (prog/death i suppose, harsh vocals) Communic - Payment of Existence (prog) (clean vocals)
etc etc. If any of these were obvious to you then I'm sorry. I tried to also make note of the kind of vocals because IIRC you don't like harshish vocals?
Well I thought that "Last Fair Deal Gone Down" was pretty proggish sounding. The other stuff maybe not so much but Katatonia is ALWAYS worth a recommendation.
Doujin metal... would Touhou remixes count? The guy who uploaded this vid has a metric fuckton of metal/rock Touhou covers, and a lot of them are INCREDIBLE. This is one of my personal favourites - I recorded a vocal cover of it with harsh and clean vocals if anyone is interested (my singing a "chorus" is terrible).

Katatonia is hardly prog...there's nothing really progressive about their music...they're more just dark alt rock. They're still a great band, though.
Also, if you're going to recommend Ihsahn's solo work, it's definitely worth looking into Emperor's last album, too. Prometheus: The Discipline of Fire and Demise is a great proggy album.
