But not one of you mentioned Demilich. Shame on you all.
+1, I just learned how to play The Putrefying Road in the Nineteenth Extremety (...Somwhere Inside the Bowels of Endlessness) on guitar. Band was way ahead of it's time as far as songwriting and their approach still hasn't been emulated. Definitely would like to learn some Lykathea Aflame but I don't think I can tune my guitar up to C# since my string gauges are too thick.
Would be a great band if they had better vocals. Drummer has some ridiculous chops. Their newer project Liturgy is in the same vein but it has Matti Way from Disgorge on vocals and the songwriting is even better.

They've got a new one coming out hopefully in 2010, they recruited Chalky from Psycroptic on vocals. As much as I like the band, the production, specifically the guitar sound, and the vocals are definitely week points. I'm talking about on Noctambulant, the production for Cabinet, the demo, and even the live bootleg sounds a lot better imo.

lolol, Matt Chalk from Psycroptic? I love his vocals but I don't know how well they will fit for a SoP album. Looking forward to it.
i dont care if you think it is metal or not fragkrag
Have you listened to their new album?
I haven't heard it yet...wondering if it stands up to Panopticon and In the Absence of Truth.
EDIT Oh, and has anyone heard of some Texas metal band called Vesperian Sorrow?
It took me longer to get into it but yes, the latest ISIS album is great and does not disappoint. Lots of ear candy :p
Ok some more bands First of all for all the metalcore haters:
then some good meshuggah
and by far my favourite converge song
Oh and to all those funny people saying X and Y is not heavy or whatever enough to be metal: Have you even ever listened to the original metal bands like sabbath or judas priest?

sabbath is pretty fucking heavy. I have no idea what the fuck you're talking about and I don't think anybody here said a requirement is "heavy". Then again, attempting to compare a 70s metal band to a 2000s metalcore band won't get you very far anyways.

[/QUOTE] It's pretty good, yeah. I still think I like Panopticon more, though. I really liked the overall style they went with in In the Absence of Truth, but as an album, it didn't hold together well overall. I was hoping for them to go further in that direction.

painkiller > metalcore in heaviness as far as im concerned.

it's a very heavy song, but there's a whole ton of judas priest songs who aren't as heavy as 95% of all metalcore songs.
@FragKrag Why is it pointless - if you wanna talk about what is metal and what isnt why not talk about the original metal bands?
Anyways I think weve talked enough and were now just wasting space that could be used for vods, so I suggest we end this. Let's just post bands and if some if the bands just aren't metal enough I again suggest you to open your own thread. I think we're all fine as long as we have noone posting britney spears and coldplay, and if some of the bands aren't exactly metal, so what, doesn't hurt to broaden your horizon a bit.

Nobody goes around comparing themselves with a 30 year old act unless they are desperate, especially when that 30 year old act has songs like
dissident aggressor, exciter, grinder, and rapid fire
