I'm glad at least one person mentioned Lykathea Aflame.

But not one of you mentioned Demilich.
Shame on you all.

lol, that's because Demilich is an AVERAGE DM band. Nothing outstanding to mention really. The vox are interesting (putting it nicely) and the music is reallllllllllllly boring.

On another note, Kronos' "Collossal Titan Strife" is an amazing album and I'm embarrassed that nobody has mentioned THAT. Or Benighted.

"Nu metal" is a misnomer, since it's not actually metal. Bands like Slipknot or Tool don't contain enough metal elements (namely the style of riffage) to be considered metal. If you're arguing that "nu metal" bands should be discussed in this thread because what constitutes metal is subjective, then I could say "IMO Pink Floyd and Green Day are psychedelic progressive br00tal traditional metal *posts link to YouTube vids* and you wouldn't be able to say shit due to your own principle that "metal is diverse".

Tool is now numetal? Did I miss something?

Like I said, intestines. Demilich is the only band that can conjure up images of bowels for me, and that's coming from a guy who like bands like Gorgasm, Deeds of Flesh, Disgorge, etc.

It's definitely an acquired taste.

Saying Demilich is a AVERAGE DM BAND? They were far ahead of the times when the released that album. They had the Gorguts dissonance, the awkward technical riffing, and sounded completely different then the other bands at the time.

lol I didn't catch that first thing you wrote...since when is Tool nu-metal? What the fuck is wrong with you?

Could you do us all a favor and explicate exactly what this "style of riffage" requirement is to be "considered metal"?

And in all honesty, nu-metal does have the decent song or album here and there. Like for instance, In my honest opinion, Mudvayne's L.D.50 is a great album, and I feel no shame in saying that.

I really don't get how you can connect nu-metal being considered metal and the same with Pink Floyd and Green Day...

Please get your head out of your ass. (:

I'm sorry, but being ahead of their time, having similarities to Gorguts (who is/was great), sounding different, and having technical riffing do not make a good band. I can appreciate their talent, but it seems like all of it was wasted on rather boring music. Add in the fact that Boman literally sounds like he's belching more than half of the time and I just can't do it. Nespithe was like ten minutes of great metal and thirty of yawn town. Strangely, it's one of the few DM albums I think this way of. It's almost like they went completely out of there way to avoid sounding like a cookie-cutter metal band and suffered for it.

I mean, I enjoy other stuff from that time; especially Immolation, Cynic, Hypocrisy, Suffocation, etc. (besides impnaz they fuckin suck).

Either way, Demilich sure beats the shit out of these new deathcore bands (JFAC, etc).

edit: hooray for a thread topic I actually know something about!

Haha, i see where youre going with this, but i dont understand why youre arguing my point with a technicality. we all know that PF and GD are not metal, and they do not advertise themselves to be. also, what constitutes proper riffing? last time i checked, there were no set rules to make a metal song.

btw, any EToS listeners? i just recently discovered them
